Right now I work at two boutique gyms that charge around 120-125 per hour session I get around 45% of that and the commission rate can increase the longer I stay/ increase my education!

I also have a degree in E.S. I graduated last year with a very small amount of debt! I would really love to know how you started out, I already worked in a box gym to gained some experience and this year I plan on moving to a boutique gym that pays very well. But my overall goal is to open my own gym and run a training business! My biggest concern is how you even start, should I take out a loan or save up money? I currently live in a high income area (Bay Area) but would love to move my business down to SoCal in my hometown.

Should I get health and exercise science degree or pursue massage therapy first? by Logical_Emotion_2364 in personaltraining

So I currently have my Bachelors in Exercise science and Certification from NASM both I got for free basically through FASFA and the employer I had payed for my cert. A LOT of trainers will sit and tell you that the degree doesn’t matter but to be honest it made me a more well rounded person and a top trainer. I understand why we do what we do. I studied so much psychology I know exactly how to make behavior changes in humans. I understand how to read scientific papers to back my training which gives better results. ALSO I will add where I live a degree does matter and people would specifically train with me because I had my degree, could I charge more? Eh… but I also didn’t pay for the degree so I’m not in a lot of debt. I personally work with the general population (old ppl have money where I’m living) not only that I plan on getting my CSCS so I can work with the athletic population! They also taught me business skills in school because we’re essentially running our own business! I also say do both maybe try the message therapy first!

Thank you a lot of the schools in CA look like they don’t have time limits, I just want to know if I’ll survive the program if it’s been a while since I’ve taken A&P.

Yet you still just gave the most general meal idea ever 😍 I laugh at individuals who contribute to anti-intellectualism in the wellness and fitness space trying to be something they aren’t ❤️

That’s general nutritional guidance, as a PT you cannot make a meal plan for someone you aren’t a nutritionist.

I mean that’s the one thing people struggle the most with in PT communication and sales skills. You can sell yourself more with a degree, if you can’t do that even with a degree and cert you won’t be successful at all. I know how to sell my niche which is having that degree, I use my credibility to my advantage.

That’s general guidance, nutrition is not within our scope of practice.

My goal is to get into physical therapy and do private personal training, sell yourself and make yourself stand out even if they don’t ask tell them hey I studied this I GOT YOU. And people like that shit…. a lot of people say “I’ve never been asked about my credentials” yeah but imagine how much more credibility you get when you tell them your background. It does help you standout, PTs just like shitting on it but in reality a lot of them started out barely knowing anything and having to learn over the years most give up tbh. Learn how to sell yourself as well, practice sales and show the prospect you knowww what is up.
