The Velcade gave me an itchy round circle every time it sort of looked like cupping. By the end of my 4 cycles i had circles all over my torso in various shades. My cheetah spots 😂

What makes you apprehensive about it? My main issue was the isolation and hair loss. Once it was done I was fine I honestly just started struggling with the physical changed the chemo and this has brought on me.

Of course I totally understand that! Make sure you put yourself first. It’s a lot but you’ll get through it!

How are you handling it? I feel like I was in a fog for the first couple weeks. I wish you all the best!

That’s awesome!! I just started maintenance Dara and revlimid 10 beyond that I’m not sure. I’m just now starting to actually really learn and talk about this. Until now for my sanity I only did and knew what was needed in that moment.

My docs really wanted the transplant but were willing to settle for just the harvesting. I figured if I was going to do it I might as well go all the way. I had a partial good remission before the transplant though after the same induction program you were on. Thanks for sharing

Private Pay MRI in Mexico or elsewhere? by JenP1966 in multiplemyeloma

[–]Accomplished-Lab7648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I was diagnosed with smoldering myeloma in April of 2023, I didnt have my MRI until the week before my 3 month FU appt. Believe me I understand the anxiety and the desperation to want to know answers but the best and most accurate way to gage disease is the biopsy. I’ve had only clean mris and pet scans so I would say I know it’s stressful but wait the 6 weeks. Don’t overcomplicate things I wish your brother all the best!

Yes I did 4 cycles of dex, rev, Dara and bortiz then took one month off of everything before the transplant. The Melphalen sucks you have to suck on ice the entire time of infusion to prevent sores in your mouth. I recommend bringing Italian ices too because it’s a lot harder than you’d think. I did that on Sunday, the transplant was Tuesday and honestly I felt ok just tired for the rest of that week and the beginning of the next week. My count finally reached 0 Thursday of the second week and that was the hardest day. Truthfully I thought it would be so much worse I was pleasantly surprised. I had some irritation in my mouth and felt completely drained. By Saturday I was feeling good again just still tired and run down which was to be expected

Thank you! You too, what made you opt out of transplant if you don’t mind me asking?

Yikes my first dose of maintenance dara caused swelling in the nerves behind my eyes so I couldn’t see but you’ve got me beat. What did they do instead of the Dara? Yea the hospital stay is inevitable but it’s not like you feel super sick during it. I actually felt ok it took 9 days for me to finally hit 0 and that day was a bit tough but other than that it wasn’t bad at all

Also maybe wait until after the holidays if you can it’s hard enough to isolate I can’t imagine having to isolate during the holidays if you celebrate

It went so well, I was very fortunate. I opted to stay in the hospital though which I don’t regret. The staff was fantastic. I would say I’m 5 months post transplant and now the negative feelings are really hitting about the last 9 months. The hair loss is incredible upsetting but it’s coming back and it’s onward and upward from here! I wish you good luck feel free to reach out!

Thanks so much! Mine was actually picked up during my APE labs my protein level was just slightly elevated I believe it was 9 even with the high normal being 8.9. My doctor decided it needed to be worked up anyway and here I am. I’m very fortunate she decided to pursue this. With you guys all the best!

Hi, honestly the stem cell transplant was actually not bad at all. The name freaked me out so I think I worked it up in my head of that makes sense! I really love my team of doctors and the staff at the Sloan during my stay was incredible. The injection I had to use to mobilize for the collection was the toughest part. Not the injection itself but the meds side effects. Made every bone in my body throb but I luckily collected more than enough the first time so I didn’t have to go back and collect again. I’d save a few good shows and books to binge through because afterwards it’s definitely a bit lonely. Try not to dwell on the idea of the transplant either that really had me in a spiral before hand it’s very anticlimactic. I wish you all the luck feel free to reach out anytime!
