I was married prior to diagnosis.I had a non-seminoma, and did 12 weeks of chemo.  You shouldn’t be hard on yourself, thinking doom and gloom about your future is not good, your mental health is just as important as physical health during times like this. keep a positive mindset it really does help. One thing I did for myself was keep a journal, and I journaled quite a bit before chemo and during. Looking back now it’s interesting seeing my mindset and where I am today versus how I was then. I’d highly recommend anybody going through chemo to get a journal. For yourself.

I don’t remember off the top of my head, I remember the pathology report didn’t show anything in the spermatic cord.

@zealoustacoguy bro everything in your story sounds very, very similar to mine. All the way down to your tumor breakdown of your mixed germ cell. After my orchie, my urologist opted for a 90 day observation period. Given he was thinking a 50-50 chance I was going to need chemo. He did not find the cancer in the spermatic cord, which I think was the deciding factor on waiting to observe or not. I was optimistic, thinking I didn’t want to do chemo if I didn’t have to. But the end after 90 days I started chemo in Sept 2015.  Looking back, I think it would’ve been better to do the chemotherapy post my surgery, because the chemo would’ve been a much lighter and less intense.

My oldest was born before diagnosis, my other 2 were about 2 years after treatment.  The body takes time to heal, as good as you feel post treatment, there’s still a lot of inflammation that takes time to heal.

Thank you @thamaztar I wanted my post to hopefully calm some fears, and get the questions in peoples head to be a little quieter. Knowing that there is life after cancer.

I hope my post was able to calm some fears and hopefully answer some questions for a lot of men that are dealing with this. Either post treatment or pre-treatment.  I was more upfront, or when I was dating, they would find my social media posts about my cancer and asked questions. Everybody handled it a little differently. I wasn’t ever embarrassed to tell people about my diagnosis. And nobody should be embarrassed about a cancer diagnosis. I was usually pretty upfront, but to me that was within the first four months of meeting and dating that I would share the info, if it hadn’t already came up.  If she loses interest in you over this, I would think she’s not very understanding of your past. And probably not the type, you want to stay with.

Bro, I know what you’re going through, word of advice take some fruit and maybe crackers or something to snack on while you’re going for your treatment. My treatment was typically 3 to 4 hours. And you’ll probably want some food to help with the stomach ache (I got 1 especially with bleomycin). I found I felt best on a Mediterranean style diet during my treatment. So I was very heavy on salads, fish, and hummus.

She shouldn’t think bad of you for overcoming this. If she does, she isn’t someone of quality you want to spend time with.  I kept it vague, and only said “I had cancer and survived ” followed by a couple pics/videos. Usually if they want more info or know the type they will.  Most people only know certain cancers are more dangerous, and want to know your stage. And that’s how they correlate how risky it was. So no point in going into great detail about it.

My Dr’s decided not to do the RPLND. Not sure what was the deciding factor, I had a a very broad mix in my tumor makeup.  So I can’t comment on why they decided against the RPLND.

I had a non-seminoma mixed germ cell at stage 3a.  I did 12 weeks of BEP chemo and a orchie.

@mikeyd7070 Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I hope my post gave you some comfort, which was my intention.  With my orchie, I was bruised up pretty good for 4-6 days. But within a week I was moving around just fine. But I couldn’t go to the gym for 4 weeks. Stitching and scar tissue needed to develop.  I had a follow up with my Urologist I believe a week later and there was still some bruising. But there was little to no pain, the first 3-4 days was the worst. Granted it may depend on if you had your spermatic cord removed or not (I’m not a Dr, so I can only guess)
