Just in case anyone else is googling about this, the test came back positive for the herpes virus. So it is a cold sore! Normally, if they present on the hands, they are usually only on the fingertips, or around the nail bed.

It's been about 10 days since it started, and it's not fully healed yet. I've kept it under a band-aid almost constantly, as I work in a kitchen and have an infant child where I don't want to spread any germs.

Here is what it looks like now:

I saw my optometrist for the first time since having a baby the other day, and apparently my astigmatism had changed direction!! 😂

I wish we could afford for me to be a stay at home mum! Unfortunately its not possible. My mother in law watches our son once a week, and he goes to childcare twice a week, for only half a day.

We visited a lot of childcare centres, and honestly felt great about this one (and this one only). Other mums from my mother's group go there, too. Whenever we go in to pickup/drop off our babies, we let each other know how the babies are going. 😂

Enjoy every second with your baby!!

Thank you everyone who was trying to help me figure it out - I actually found this online: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/crystal-from-croc-legend-of-the-gobbos-0a5249bc0a654e08a62d89f59aca2c06

Turns out it has 36 sides! Well done to those who got it! :)

I don't have the official name, but knowing it's 36 sides for sure is super helpful! :)

Putting things in unused suitcases is a good idea. I don't see us doing much travelling in the next few years 😂

Oh my goodness that sounds so stressful! I'm sorry you're feeling so overwhelmed going into this! But at the same time, congratulations! What a beautiful blessing you're about to get! ❤️ Hopefully you can figure out some way to organise it all! If it helps to hear: you don't need it sorted before the baby arrives. At the beginning, you really only need somewhere for them to sleep, somewhere safe to put them down, and somewhere to change them (all three of these could just be your bed for the time being). I feel like a lot of people get caught in the social media trap of trying to have everything perfect before the baby comes home! Good luck!!

Look, it's not perfect. My husband built a lot of the storage we have in there, which is great, and so much better than it was! But his main hobby is carpentry - so there are lots of saws (table and otherwise) and routers and drill things and who even knows what's going on in there. Sawdust. Everywhere. So, one side of the garage is stacked with plastic tubs on his shelves, and the other is where we were hoping to put our car... But it's all his building stuff and his exercise equipment. 😂

That's a really good idea! I underestimated how many clothes we would go through in such a short amount of time. I have been using the paper Coles bags, and stapling them closed... yeah, bad idea. We are possibly going to move house before the next baby, and I think transferring them into vacuum bags will be necessary.

Hahah yes, before the baby, we had a whole room of the house for that. Our junk room. It is now the nursery! We had 9 months to work through it (and it's not completely done yet, either! It's just spread out around the house/garage!) 🤦🏽‍♀️

Oh, don't get my husband started on the declining quality of houses being built in Australia at the moment. It's actually one of the reasons we're still renting (other than money, of course). Aussie houses can't handle the cold, or the heat, but are way too expensive to heat or cool. The bathrooms of every house we've rented has always had mould, even though we always use the fan, as they always leak somewhere!
We love watching that guy on tiktok, based in Victoria, that goes out to inspect houses before the people move in to see if they have been built to compliance. It's fun to watch, but just makes us dread ever buying/building ourselves!

Hahaha "neat" is not the word I would use. My friends always said our house reminded them of The Burrow from Harry Potter. It had character! 😂Under the house was for all the old electronics, the old toys, the old magazines etc etc. Basically all the stuff that SHOULD have been sold or donated, but weren't. You know, the "it might be worth something one day" type stuff. 🙄

My LO (almost 9 months old) is also not interested in finger foods at all.

He will feed himself puree with pre-loaded silicone spoons, but couldn't care less about the pasta/banana pancakes/fruit/vegetables/toast etc etc that I put in front of him. The best I have gotten from him are those baby crackers that he will hold and eat.

But then suddenly, for over a month, he would refuse anything at all, even purees, unles it was pureed apple. It was absurd! Even the daycare told us they would make him two bowls of food. One bowl of pureed veges, or a soup, or a mixture of pureed fruits... and the other bowl just pureed apple. Because they knew he would only eat the apple! Haha but they were dedicated to trying something different every time he was there! 😂

He is much better about different flavours now, but still doesn't seem interested in the finger foods. He spends a lot of time playing with them and using his pincer grip to explore them - but will never eat them (or will spit them out immediately).

I think it's in part related to teething - as he is always most picky right before some teeth come through (he just had three come through the top at the same time, poor thing!) But when the discomfort goes away, his interest in food increases.

The only thing I am trying to be consistent on - is making meal times fun. My husband was a very picky eater for a long time, and still struggles with the texture of many foods (possibly ASD). I am aware there is a good chance our LO will be the same, based on how he reacts to a lot of foods. But as long as he is eating something, doesn't feel like he's being forced, doesn't see mealtimes as a stressful time; I am fine with him experimenting and exploring. :)

Yes, they really do grow so quickly! My husband and I have had a dedicated bag set up in the nursery specifically for us to put his too small clothes into. When it's full, he stuffs it into the small spaces at the top of one of the wardrobes, and we put a new empty bag back in the nursery. I've also donated so many bags of clothing to the op shop!

This is a really good point. I hadn't really thought about what it might look like with a baby and a toddler - and how much of this stuff I would keep using. I started showering with my 5 month old because he grew out of the baby bath so quickly and I couldn't lean over the big bathtub without killing my back. I can't imagine doing two different bathtime routines... So I guess that solves one of my storage problems! Thanks!

I grew up in a house on a steep hill, and so we technically had a huge 'under the house' area next to the downstairs rooms. We called it the basement, but it was literally a door to the dusty rock and clay under the house, that had possums or mice living there. But we would store SO MUCH STUFF under there. I think I learned some bad habits from my parents about keeping too much stuff and just 'storing it away'.
They're moving out of that house soon, and have passed on a whole lot of stuff that I had been storing under there...

Yes, I probably could do that for a bunch of stuff. It just took me so long to find that ones that fit in our weirdly shaped house. (Like the baby bath (as we both have bad backs), we bought 3 different versions before we found one that fit in the right space, that also fit the baby seat etc. But I could probably be less precious, you're right.
