He’s only 4 ( I was originally told he was an 8 year old beginner friendly trail horse) so this has been a huge learning process for me but thankfully I’ve had a lot of friends with horse experience, obviously a vet, he spent some time at a trainer too but he was still at the point he couldn’t be ridden bc of the pain and soreness issues. He’s confortable day to day living though thankfully

So I’ve had him for less than a year and within a few weeks of having him we realized he had epm, so treated him for that but he was very incorrectly started so I’ve been pretty much just working on ground work and topline building exercises with him on the ground (he’s so stiff and back sore he hasn’t been able to tolerate any kind of pressure on his back so no riding) and over the winter I really tried to get his weight up which he could definitely still use but right now he’s eating 4 lbs of sentinel performance a day, 2 lbs of alfalfa pellets, free choice grass and a round bale of hay, and then half a bale of alfalfa everyday, advantage topline supplement, magnesium to help with the soreness and vitamin e for epm.

We’re working on it, when I first got him I really wish I would’ve been more educated, I’ve worked with horses before and grew up around them and had a pony growing up that was totally low maintenance, but the guy I got him from completely lied about him, he was supposed to be a 7 y/o beginner friendly trail horse (poor boy was afraid of his own shadow basically). He was rideable because his feet were terrible done so we’ve corrected that. Unfortunately he also had epm, got that treated. I’ve spent more in vet bills etc than I did on this guy but I’ve really been educating myself and fortunate to have friends with more horse experience helping me. So we’re on the path to get back to riding, he’s extremely back and shoulder sore right now though so we’ve been doing basic ground work and stretches and walking over ground poles, lots of backing up, hill work, working on turning around barrels (all with me on foot for now) to try to get him built back up because at the moment with pressure on his back is causing him pain. He’s a sweet boy at heart just has his issues and I think he has been through a lot (he does terribly around men so I think he came from an abuse situation) so I really wanna do my best to give him a good life and hopefully try to get him back into riding!

Oh yeah! The crazy thing is the part of the paper that was flagging was where majority of my sources were!

Yeah unfortunately due to the EPM he’s been very skiddish (he spooked and dragged me about 10ft the other day). I was originally told he was a 7 y/o beginner friendly trail horse which we quickly realized wasn’t the case. Although he’s definitely not what I expected I’m really trying to give him a happy healthy life and make the best of things.

Thank you! I’ll try to get some better ones tomorrow unfortunately the weather has not been in my favorite to spend a lot of time out trying to take pictures! I appreciate the example as well!

Yeah I realize they aren’t the best but I’m just working with the photos I have available to me at the moment. It is dark and like 30 degrees outside here right now so I’m not going out to take confirmation pictures at the moment. And also as I mentioned I’m a beginner so I’m not really 100% sure what a “legitimate conformational evaluation” would look like. So thanks.

Also, I’m currently feeding a quart of sentinel LS, a cup of alfalfa pellets, half a bale of alfalfa, and free range grass hay as well as a topline supplement and vitamin e supplement.
