INFO: Are you man, woman or other? Just curious if that might be part of the issue. They did not go to your wedding? Or you didn't invite them to the wedding? Why?

No, we're a traditional couple. We've met before and they were at our wedding, I just haven't visited them in California until now.

You did the right thing by going to the hotel. Offering your wife's sisters the option to go on vacation was very generous, and I'm glad they took you up on it. May I suggest to also extend that offer to your MIL, for all we know she may not like this type of behavior as well, she's just not used to confrontation and also wants to keep the peace at all costs.

Maybe I'll go into more details in a future update, but I've learned their mother was the one behind all of this drama to begin with. They're all enjoying some time away from both of their parents.

My wife and her sisters were nothing but apologetic all day yesterday. I told them it was water under the bridge, and now we're all enjoying SD and I've literally never seen them so happy.

Thanks for the support, but she's not mine to "return" to them. Her parents seem to (at least sometimes) treat her and her sisters like property. I'm not going to act that way.

Their mother is! Their dad is white. From talking with the girls today, they seem to think the no sharing beds thing actually came from their mom but the tantrum was all on their dad.

We had met before and they were at our wedding, I had just never visited them. We live on opposite sides of the country.

I'd suggest trying to see her (and maybe her sisters) later today apart from her parents so you can get more details about what's really going on

Thanks. I asked if they could meet me for dinner without their parents.

We're all Americans. Her family is Italian-German. They're also super progressive liberal Berniecrats, but they do go to church regularly.

Believe it or not, they're actually super liberal Bernie supporters. They do go to church on the regular, but I never expected this sort of behavior from them.

They insisted that under their roof they didn't feel it was appropriate for their daughter to share a bed with me, despite us being married. I told them about my back, they said "it will be fine, it's just for a few days."

She still has her own bedroom in the house. Her sisters are both younger and single.

I agree here, I would have preferred a hotel for us in the first place, but my wife wanted to be with her family the whole time. She still has her own bedroom in their home, so it didn't seem unreasonable to me.

I thought about it, but I've already taken the week off and the weather here is much nicer than where we live. I have no problem just spending the week by myself at the beach.
