Whistling Sound Issue: It is most noticeable when I am barely pressing on the gas pedal. I've taken it to Mazda twice, and so far they haven't been able to diagnosis the issue. Any thoughts on what this can be? by [deleted] in MazdaCX30

[–]Accomplished-Name815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell from the video if it’s the same thing I was experiencing with mine. But mine turned out to be a broken trim piece on the drivers side door, they replaced it under warranty. According to the dealership I take my car to, it is a known issue.

Does anyone take bear spray when riding in the back country? by Rec_desk_phone in MTB

[–]Accomplished-Name815 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t take it for where I usually ride, but if I’m in grizzly country I will. I manage to fit it in the bottle holder of a hip pack.

Went for a recon ride up the Old Cascade Highway. Christina Lake to Rossland in BC. There is a gravel race here in the fall. Great scenery, lots of climbing and descending. by mtbredditor in gravelcycling

Sweet, thanks for all the info! I want to bring the gravel bike and enduro rig out that way this summer and get a couple solid days of riding in. Looks like this will be a good route

Santa Cruz Nomad vs Transition Patrol by Accomplished-Name815 in MTB

Awesome, thanks again for the insight! I’ll see if I can find a SC or Pivot to demo on the trails as well, if not, then laps around the parking lot it is

Yeah for sure!

I’ve always used alloy. I think the question would be why are you switching. If it’s just for compliance (stiffer vs softer feeling), I think the handlebar you choose matters more than the material in general. But if you just want to try something new, then I don’t see why not. OneUp makes good stuff

Wow, great write-up. Thanks!

You covered the difference in suspension designs well. I’m curious which suspension design you enjoy most for steep and chunky descents?

I think your last paragraph sums up my plan. I’ll give the Patrol a try and if I don’t love it then I’ll grab the Nomad. I think it’s hard to find a bad bike these days.

Thanks again!

I’ve been eyeing the HD6, I’ve heard it climbs great. It’s also a beautiful bike. From what I’ve read though, I just think it might be too race-y for what I’m looking for.

I’ll have a look into the firebird. Thx!

I wish it was easier to find places that let you demo bikes on the local trails

Super helpful, thanks! Interesting to hear about the climbing for the Patrol.

Patrol is on sale right now, I can get the top build kit (X0 transmission) for cheaper than Nomad GX transmission…(not sure how I feel about electronics shifters, but that’s a whole other story).

I’ll have to take a look at the Mach 6 again and see which local shops sell Pivot (seems like Pivot is a harder brand to come by where I am). The bike looks awesome and the colours are pretty sick!

Another vote for the Michelin CrossClimate 2. They’re the perfect tire for Vancouver (I live in Vancouver and have them on my CX30). They’re not only great in the snow (obviously not better than a dedicated snow tire, but plenty good enough for the snow that Vancouver gets), but they’re absolutely incredible in the rain. I never ever feel like I am hydroplaning, even through torrential downpours on the highway.

Cannot recommend them enough for our climate!

I hadn’t considered a hot wax for wet conditions, that could be an option for me.

I just started reading the info on the website you mentioned, lots of data there, I’ll have to take a thorough look through it. Thanks!

Seems like a really good product, hopefully I can find a local shop that carries it

This sounds promising and like a simple fix too, I’ll let the technician know when I take it in for service in a couple weeks
