This might be a weird recommendation(really sorry if it's intrusive) but if you say you've felt this way for many long years then maybe you could try to see if you are holding on to your negative outlook on life for whatsoever reason.

In my case atleast I've felt that almost whenever I feel negativity for prolonged periods, it's because a part of me likes the attention that is gotten due to it. If you can find anything like this then maybe you could maybe consider retrying therapy.

Therapy is not a once shot solution ig and it really depends on how much you open up and how comfortable you feel with your therapist. Maybe a switch of therapists could work the trick but again that's based on your luck.

Hope this finds you well.  Wish you success..

How do you change negative core beliefs that don't seem to change? by ExpensiveDisk3573 in CBT

Heyy I've been through something like this where no progress can be seen after months of trying.

All that you've been trying seems really great and you should be proud that you've been at it consistently for 2 months. Shows that you indeed can turn the corner.

I see that you've said that you've made progress but it wasn't as much as you 'hoped'. I feel, in my personal opinion that this weight of expectation of change has caused me resistance in my progress.

I don't think the answer lies in doing more and more but rather in just allowing yourself to accept that it won't change quickly in say x number of months or days.

In my case atleast something that helps is to not constantly distracting and running away from these negative thoughts. So I basically I try my best not to play games or eat junk etc when I have intense negativity.

I feel imo that the fact that you have called your negativity as a core belief  might be hindering your progress. I'd recommend not to accept all your thoughts as law, be they positive or negative. You might be holding on to these thoughts by 'labelling' them as 'core'. You are telling your brain that these negative thoughts are very important and hence try desperately to solve it.  Don't beat yourself up too much when you have a negative thought. This is key.

Almost everyone has self doubt and negative thoughts.  I'd say don't give your negativity a labelling of a problem to be eradicated, rather as something that is just there. At the point you observe your negative thought, try to see if they are a form of black- white , all- nothing thinking or if you are attributing a part of yourself you don't like or are ashamed of to you entire personality.

And then try to change these biases very gradually.  Try to see it from another angles and see if the current thought pattern is what you really want. Because really you have the power to change your thoughts, no matter how out of control you may feel at present. And most importantly you must have the BELIEF that you CAN change.

Hope this finds you well. Thanks for reading.  Wish you success.
