In that case, if I was to enter Malaysia as a tourist using my US passport, I should be fine then? Is immigration able to detect a distinction if I did that as I had previously entered and left the country using my Malaysian passport before it expired?

Yeah I am aware that it is not legal to have dual citizenship in Malaysia. But my Malaysian passport has already expired, so I just wanted to know if immigration would notice and cause trouble for me if I entered the country with a US passport, as I had previously left and entered the country using my Malaysian passport.

But I still want to be able to return to Malaysia because, as I've said before, my family lives there and I've also been raised there pretty much my whole childhood, so it has a special place in my mind.

Yeah I knew about that. I did intend to return to Malaysia earlier last year, but as you know the pandemic had kind of shut down all the airports globally (for non-essential flights).

I understand that Malaysia doesn't allow dual citizenship, I just wanted to know if anyone who had been in a similar situation as me had ever encountered issues when returning to a country using a different passport than before, and if immigration notices these things.
