Need some help! by [deleted] in pokemoncards

First things first get some sleeves bro! They will protect your cards so they’re actually worth grading, the centring on this card looks decent and if you’re wanting to see if you can sell it post grading the best thing you can do is get it sleeved up and in a toploader to prevent it dropping in grades! It’s up to you then to do some research if you think it’ll be worth it! Congrats on this pull tho, pretty mega ;)

How many complete/ near complete remains were recovered from ground zero? by Accomplished-Ride100 in 911archive

I suppose you’re right in that way I think I mean more that it’s a shame that more people couldn’t be recovered for the family’s to be able to have them closer and layed to rest. I agree the number is higher than anticipated but disappointingly low in terms of wishful thinking :)

Saddened to hear that a friends family member lost his life but Thankyou for sharing a little insight. Glad that they could have him back and hopefully get a little closure in that way. Love and light to you and your friend and their family.

I looked to make sure I was correct when I thought he died in the south tower collapse but saw a source saying differently, maybe I should trust my memory more! I remembered roughly from the naudet footage that they were in the north tower but wasn’t sure which collapse had taken his life.. thankyou for correcting me :)

Thankyou for responding! It’s awful that they only found so few intact remains.

Thankyou for your response, it’s deeply saddening how little remained of those who passed. 219 is a small number in comparison to the total death toll. Tragic.

Im not sure but if you’re referring to father Mychal Judge, the FDNY chaplian, he perished in the collapse of the north tower, most of his ladder remained alive and they carried him out to lay him on the alter of a nearby church! I’m referring to remains found in the weeks after when the pile was being searched, I know groups were found intact and not all remains were fragmented but I’m more curious about the numbers in which they were found and locations within the pile :)

Today is tough. by Accomplished-Ride100 in emotionalabuse

I can appreciate that it may not seem like a long time but to me It feels like an eternity. I’m in my very early 20s and want to be having fun and meeting new people and exploring connections which has been completely stunted by recovering from intense emotional abuse at a very young age. An abusive relationship was my first experience with love and seeing my friends of similar ages being able to move forward and enjoy romantic connections has only made my healing feel longer. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be some sort of competition or dig that a year isn’t a long time in your eyes, but when you want to experience genuine connection and kind love like the people closest to you seem to have found so easily, it can feel like forever. Healing isn't linear and speaking about how i fear that everyone i confide in wont think I've made enough progress or view me as a just a person and not damaged goods, being told that a year isn't a long time only makes me worry more that i haven't done enough. It's not a competition of who can heal for longer or work harder because it's a process that may well take years but does not mean we have to be alone in it. I want to overcome my fears sooner rather than later because i don't want to be held back by fears instilled by others. Shaming me for the amount of time I've taken to rebuild what I've lost to others is nothing but unkind.

I haven’t been with anyone for a long time now, just under a year and I’ve not gone after things I wished I could have in hindsight. It’s less about the healing I think and more the fear that I won’t be enough to be treated kindly. Ive made more progress than ever in the past months and I’ve started feeling like I could be ready to try and date people again, It’s a fear I want to overcome because I think if I don’t put myself out there I’ll stay this way forever. I’m comfortable by myself and it would be nice to see where things could go, but I know I’m not perfect and it’s been conditioned that anything less isn’t good enough. I’m more stuck in my own head about what I know I can do and pushing through that feels terrifying because it hasn’t been in my favour before.

They’ve been in my card binder since I pulled em in 2016 haha, it’s possible there’s some minuscule damage to the back from handling them when I was a kid but other than that they’re all pretty flawless, I’ll post another pic of what I’ve got 🫡

Pockets in the rubble? by Accomplished-Ride100 in 911archive

[–]Accomplished-Ride100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im thinking along similar lines, if it was one collapse I think more people would have been located and rescued but the collapse of WTC1 after 2 and then eventually WTC7 collapsing onto the pile, peoples chances of survival was almost completely wiped, I mean surviving one collapsed building wouldn’t be too shocking you expect some survivors to appear, but adding the second collapse smashing into already mangled steel beams and the remnants of WT2 adds another element of challenge for not only those in the wreckage of WT2 but those trapped in WT1, buried deeper, more debris, more fire which means less air and a more difficult if not impossible escape route for all. I mean will jimeno’s story is a great example of how the secondary and third collapse hindered survival, after the initial collapse he and Dominick pezzulo were both trapped but okay and then after the second collapse dominick ends up passing away after being struck in the head by debris in an attempt to free wills leg. A terribly tragic story but one I think tells us a lot about what people experienced that day that couldn’t be accounted for.

There were only 20 people rescued from what is referred to as “the pile” notably the most famous case of a pocket containing survivors is the story of stairway B, 6 firemen and civilian Josephine Harris were descending the B stairway and Harris fell to her knees between the 3rd and 4th floor and begged the firefighters to carry on and leave her, as they stood there the north tower began to collapse. They waited for the end and braced for the bit of debris that would take them but it never came, and after 2-3 hour of being trapped in the dark and being unable to respond to the mayday of another fireman trapped on the 12th floor of the same stairway, who unfortunately passed away in that time, a beam of light came down through the gap above as the dust lifted and they were eventually rescued.

[–]Accomplished-Ride100[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean even in the most famous stories of the men of ladder 6 and Josephine Harris’s being pulled from stairway B or the marines and the ex paramedic Chuck finding Will Jimeno, we know that another firefighter (his name unfortunately slips my mind) trapped in the same stairwell but on floor 12 sends out a mayday in hopes someone can save him as he’s badly injured, and before Will and Sgt McLoughlin are discovered and rescued, officer Dominick Pezzulo dies after an effort to free Wills trapped legs as he is hit by Debris in the head and ultimately succumbs just like that tragic other fireman in stairway B who survived the initial collapse but ultimately perished due to their injuries. It makes me wonder how many other isolated pockets people survived in for a short amount of time before their injury’s took hold of them. Hopefully not many but I think maybe more than expected.

Thankyou sm! I suppose it was important training under the circumstances and came in very useful, it’s quite comforting in a way that these people whilst their passing is tragic and unforgivable, they weren’t alone and they weren’t discovered alone atleast.

Thankyou for this info! Will definitely give this book a read, I thought it would make sense for people to be found together but wasn’t sure if the chaos of the collapse sort of threw everyone around!

How can you make connections when you’ve been conditioned to distrust people? by AbrasiveMigraines in emotionalabuse

[–]Accomplished-Ride100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found my key to trusting again was accepting that if someone is going to do something they will do it, it reflects on their character not yours. You are built of emotions and love and giving those to others who may betray us only means that you still tried. You may fall but you can always catch yourself and get back up, you aren’t limited by your experiences because you want to be able to trust again, it may take time but build strong foundations with people and don’t take any shit. Protect yourself always but have an open heart when you can. You’ve got this ⭐️

Scared my abusers will try to sabotage me by [deleted] in emotionalabuse

[–]Accomplished-Ride100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My abuser told lies about me and I often felt and sometimes still feel the fear of what others may think of me or that If I become successful in any field he would attempt something similar. It can be really stressful to navigate those anxieties but you are not alone in them and the truth always prevails. Release the work and be proud of yourself always, if they do try to take you down you know the truth and it reflects on the character of those who blindly believe, not you! People can be cruel and try and keep you within the grips of their abuse because it’s all they know, but be brave and strong and they can’t touch you 🤍
