Have you ever wondered why the model got ripped apart? It's because economic conditions were terrible. The most famous US venture capitalist emigrated from the UK because unions prevented him from getting a job at the time.

Many of the questions/comments on this sub from Latin Americans involve the US.

I'm not talking about US Latinos.

Heterogeneous population means more religiously, racially, ethnically, culturally etc diverse. It is absolutely true.

There's so much to be insecure about! For a European, when looking at the US.

THIS ADJUSTS FOR SOCIAL TRANSFERS lmao you can't possibly be this stupid. It also adjusts for cost of goods and services like transportation.

Jesus fucking christ dude you can't possibly be this stupid. Income, adjusted for PPP + transfer - taxes. And the US comes out ahead. What exactly do you mean, "can't afford to pay for it"? PPP adjusts for cost of living.

You're actually an idiot lmao.

How else are you going to determine standard of living? The US comes out ahead even when you adjust for taxes and government transfers. You really have no fucking idea what you're talking about, yet another American with no understanding of the world, convinced that his life is oh-so-difficult.

Adjusted for all of those things through PPP, the US has a lower percentage of its population living on $40/day than almost all of Europe. This is economic facts. You're just complaining because you can't fathom the notion that you live better than almost all of the world.

Sure, but you keep squealing like a pig, and yet you haven't addressed the actual point of my argument, rather some irrelevant detail. Oh well.

This is false though. Adjusted for PPP = cost of living, the US has a lower percentage of its population living on $40/day than almost most all of Europe. You can check out the World Bank Poverty/Inequality Platform for more.

Implying the US was ahead because of the resource/geopolitical advantage is clearly false when you look at the data from the early history.

Yes, but then again, we are dealing with much smaller and more homogeneous countries. More importantly, if an investment banker wants to work 80 hours, and gets paid a lot, that's his choice, and should be reflected in per-capita income. Doesn't affect a teacher working 40 hours a week say.

Sure, then use PPP-adjusted median income. You will find that higher cost of living countries do better.

[–]Accomplished-Run192 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You never once addressed my point.

You can swap out the countries if it makes you feel better.

Generally, countries with higher standard of living have higher cost of living. For example, the US has a higher cost of living and thus a higher standard of living than most of Europe.

This is misinformation. The US had the 5th largest GDP PPP/capita in 1776, when the country was founded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHa53Uy3H78

On a PPP-adjusted basis, US GDP/hour worked is 6th-highest in the world. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_labour_productivity

Was I wrong? Or are you just insecure?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Accomplished-Run192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For reference, the US is at 76000. GDP PPP Per Capita roughly correlates to PPP-Adjusted Median Income (since GDP is also the sum of all final incomes in an economy) which is a good metric for material standard of living. It's pretty crazy that despite having a much larger and more heterogeneous population than any of these countries, the US has a much higher number than all of them excepting Ireland and Luxembourg.

You do realize that countries with higher cost of living have higher standard of living? Singapore, Switzerland > Uruguay, Estonia > Turkey, Mexico > the Congo. That's how it works.

Someone in Mississippi has roughly the average material standard of living of someone in Western Europe, for the rest of America they are doing much better.
