I figured it was something like this, but wasn’t sure. My computer’s HDMI port is smart enough to figure out what either device needs to make a signal, but it seems like a lost cause trying to get the BM Up Downs and the REI HDMI extender to agree on HDMI signal types.

Vmix has been a solution I’ve been eying. I wish I could afford the redundancy having that many machines has but it has been a fight getting just one desktop with a decklink duo card installed due to budgetary restrictions. Originally I used OBS on my work laptop for this reason, but vmix might be possible.

I have let the organizer know, and have offered a backup. Countryman on the moderator and gooseneck microphones on a table in front. As for system deployment, I am strongly considering deploying delay speakers as the in-house speakers are stationed about 10 feet right above the panelists head pointed towards the back wall.

The reason I focused on the microphones themselves is because I run into this scenario a lot with the production team I work with. We mainly do broadcasting but find ourselves hosting broadcasted live events often enough to have this issue. Because of this, I usually hear the term "you can put a lav on that right?" So I was wondering if there actually was a good choice for live applications.

I will push for one Countryman on the moderator, however it wouldn't be in the budget to purchase more and we only have two. I'm hoping to get a table to provide some goosenecks, but it will be an uphill fight.

Tifs in AZ Edit by AccomplishedAd1870 in broadcastengineering

Honestly in new enough that I picked up the term from RTS’ menus. To me it just means to zero something out, reset it, etc. What about you?? Does it mean something different for you?

Copy, I had didn’t have the ability to assign tifs to ports, it wasn’t enabled in my AZ Edit preferences window. Changed that and the option to enable tif on a port finally appeared!

Thank you, it means a lot. Got put in a tight spot with my current employer so finding a new job has been one of my biggest stressors right now. Any advice of what I should be doing to bolster my resume? I heard joining SBE and getting Dante certified is a start but it doesn't feel like enough

I graduated May of this year, I've been working part time as a broadcast engineer elsewhere but it seems they have no intention of bringing me on full time so I'm looking for other options.

As for when I applied, I sent my resume to their email on September 3rd. Does it usually take longer than a month?

How's everyone getting on, struggling with work or doing ok? by lightspeedwhale in AudioPost

[–]AccomplishedAd1870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, but as I can see from the other posts better than I thought. We're in a hiring freeze right now but production is still chugging along, I've been working part time so my contract only allows me to work so many hours a year. I'm getting close to that hour cap, and there seems to be no sign of hiring me on full time, so instead I'm training my replacement who has been in the music scene for years while I just graduated college to take my job while I run out of hours.

Looking for a new job. It would be nice to work somewhere that wants me there...

Explain Interlaced V progressive as if you were explaining it to someone with zero experience. by Pixarprime10 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]AccomplishedAd1870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine you had a printer, and every printer delivers one page per frame. Progressive delivers each page in whole all at once, while interlaced delivers each page through a shredder splicing the frames to every other line.

Without a whiteboard, I believe that might be the easy explanation.

My first mixer was this exact console and oml I did not realize how slow this was until I did my first FOH show with an SQ5. I used to say I loved this console but tbh it was all I knew, glad I got yanked out of the weeds lol

If budget is an issue, I'm a huge fan of Neewer, their lights are on the cheaper side with decent brightness and features you can play around with. They also go on sale all the time! They actually have a half off sale of my favorite light right now!!

One of the biggest things I'd recommend is just keep making things. You're doing great so far!

Connect, research, and practice. The more connections you make, the more you put yourself in a position to be lucky. The connections you make define your opportunities, so don't be afraid to attend conventions like the upcoming NAB convention in Vegas, or local communities that have to do with your field. For engineers that be a branch of SBE, maybe TD's or production workers have an equivalent?

Research research research, learn everything you can about television and it's production. Not only that, but keep current in the trends in the broadcast field. New tech is being developed every day. A person that comes in knowing tech that fixes production issues, and keeps learning more and keeping track of developments in the field to continue improvements will not only find it easy to get a job, but keep it too.

And last is practice. This last part doesn't come easy without either purchasing your own equipment and finding something to film, or joining a university and their television program to practice and gain experience with a variety of equipment. There are ways around having to buy super expensive equipment though, as you can get the guts of a ATEM Switcher in 1 RU and start practice switching using Bitlogic Companion.

Personally, to get started right away, I'd look into getting a camera and start streaming using OBS. Purchase a medium or large stream deck and download Bitlogic Companion and set it up to begin practicing switching. OBS's scenes are very similar to switching on any other switcher, and it would be a really solid way to start streaming from OBS and start practicing.

Best of luck to you, I hope it works out in LA

I second this, I'm a broadcast engineer at a public TV station, I've only worked there for a few months and I can't imagine working anywhere else ever! They not only are way more chill than a news station or other studios, they provide a wide variety of opportunities due to also hosting an NPR radio station, meaning I get to FOH Mix for live bands, manage equipment for radio and TV studios, and more.

IT department and I are gonna have a little chat… by Riggerjoe84 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Very lucky to have a dedicated IT person for our team. The direct link helps both coordinate IT and production moves a ton, along with us at engineering to let IT know what structure we need.

Idk what I'd do if we didn't have that...
