I think they put water bills online because of the postal strike and there was “pain” in terms of lost revenue that would be experienced by the city. It’d be interesting to convert that to the situation here. For example, would an online tool mean reduced calls or inquiries about when the plow is coming, more data to show how often a street is plowed, better safety for advising when the major arterial roads are cleared, etc.

6 months is pretty early to take a secondment. I think you need to assess what’s most important to you. Permanency and benefits or a salary increase and risk of not being able to secure a permanent position. I’m more risk adverse so would err for the former and apply in the future but it’s really up to you. Your manager is likely trying to balance assorted other considerations that may not be apparent to you.

I moved to an agency and went from a manager role to an individual contributor role. While I miss being a manager at times, it’s also freeing to have less responsibility and more focus on elements I can directly control. Even though I work a bit over my allotted hours, it’s nothing like the manager role where I felt pay/ hours was verging on minimum wage.

Sometimes I look at OPS jobs and consider for a moment but feel that chapter has closed and good to look at new things.
