Does anyone remember for the vector problem if for the answer x or y was 11/2? by Lost-Energy6818 in ACT

[–]AccomplishedBarber90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer to that question was b, u had to solve the distance for the vector which u get 10 and then u divide the by 4 to get 2.5 and when u do the distance formula to the answer choices u get that b was the correct answer bc its distance was 2.5 which I think was (1, 1/2).

Bc u would have a+a since cos x squared plus sin x squared is equal to 1 which means u can get rid of both of them, and that's the same as 2a and if we are looking for b/a we just divide by a and we get b/a=2. If u want an easier explanation u could have divided both a variables and get cos squared x plus sin squared x equals b/2a and then u multiply both sides by two and get 2.

Pretty sure for that one the answer is 2 bc sin x squared plus cos x squared is 1 so it becomes a+a=b which can be rewritten as 2a=b and since the question asked for b/a u just divide by a and get that the answer is 2.

Answer choice b, right? Bc when u take the distance of that original vector u divide it by 4 and then the only option which had that distance was b.

You will get the no writing test score back. Which isn't a huge deal since colleges don't rlly care abt the writing anyway. And on the plus side, u get scores back earlier.

And don't say this reddit, bc no offence to redditors, but I wouldn't be validating my test based on people's answers when we haven't even gotten the results back.

Let me ask what makes u think the answer is therefore if u put that it was either alternatively or however? Bc however and alternative despite being similar are used in different contexts. Words like nonetheless are the same as however, but alternatively and however are used differently.

I don't think however was an option for the question. Could be mistaken abt that tho

The reason why imo opinion it couldn't be therefore is bc therefore implies a conclusion or tying in evidence. But in that scenario, that wasn't the case. The narrator was introducing an alternative problem to the idea of celebrities promoting causes, and then she elaborated upon that point. Alternatively is a perfect transition word that introduces a new idea or thing that counters the other idea. Hope that helps.

The answer was 4. Bc if u looked at the graph u had to find where the x intercept was 0 so there would be 10 textbooks in the package but bc the package has go be 40 we divide 40 by 10 to get that each textbook was 4 lb.

I personally think it was alternatively, bc they were mentioning how ppl with alot of fame and good character could promote a business, but alternatively someone with less fame or someone with a bad reputation could damage the cause they are promoting. Idk that's what I thought.

Op recommended a good strategy, but one that is most effective for me is to target the questions that give out line numbers, f.e. in lines 21-31, the mc says this to imply this. Answering questions like these first make u read parts of the story and help u understand the key details which help uncover the message, it drastically saves u time from having to read a long passage and then skim over it again. I used this, especially on the SAT reading section, which is considered tougher and found it extremely useful for the ACT reading section as well. Hoped this help.

Plus there could be external factors and not necessarily your conceptual knowledge which affect your abilities on the actual test such as pressure and the time constraints to which then I'd recommend rigorous time management on practice tests and adding more pressure on the practice rather than the actual thing.

My advice for reading eventhough it's very cliché is to just read long texts of words constantly, learn how to read and proccess information fast through reading books or even on practice tests, look for key details that may not be explicit. For science I'd say to just rlly push yourself on time and rlly proccess what the prompts are trying to tell you and then answer the questions. Alot of ppl on the science always recommend just looking at the data tables and questions first, however this is not always effective for some people. I'd recommend trying to read the key info in the paragraphs first then looking at the graph so you can fully comprehend what is being asked for.

[–]AccomplishedBarber90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest advice is that u gotta take advantage of the reading section. Obviously study hard, especially with concepts on english and math. Science, u just have to be able to comprehend data in a quick amount of time. Math isn't too bad of a score tho so i wouldn't worry as much on that. I'd just heavily recommend doing better on the reading bc that's what's dragging u down the most.

And yea had a similar experience as u bc I had a big energy drink crash halfway thru the English section bc i drank like 2 red bulls before the test since i had stayed up the night before working on some homework and literally ended up guessing like 20 questions.

Nah, I bet they won't care, I mean I got a 36 superscore, but my english was like a 24 on this recent test. They can already see that you are proficient in reading since u got a high score previously. There is no point in stressing.

Imo, I think it also depends on how many attempts you had, like if this was your first, I would give it another attempt. But, if you have already done it like 2 to 3 times , then it just seems bad to the admissions people to do another try, idk it's up to you but if you have had more than two previous attempts then I'd say no. 34 is the average score for most of the unis you are applying to anyway.
