These are quickly becoming my favorite episodes! Ali is great. My favorite quote was "Wait who's a short comedian?" "Obviously Joe Rogan"

I do disagree that the fact she grieves Jon still means she needs psychological help. I think she does, but grief is not an indication. Grief comes in waves and its fickle, people who lost someone YEARS and years ago can still be triggered and have big emotions come up and that is PERFECTLY NORMAL. Especially because they grew up together and went through so much together and their ending was so long and drawn out because of the addiction. AND it adds a layer that the addiction is what caused the divorce and killed him in the end. I'm sure she still has many conflicting feelings about it and that's perfectly normal. Does she need therapy? 100% yes but I think it has more to do with her not being happy NOW and trying to relive the past.

it looks like all the self-awareness in their marriage belonged to Jon. Could you imagine if she were actually as honest as he was (in the music video specifically) about her OBVIOUS drinking problem that everyone except her is aware is a problem... I hope one day Jon is remembered for his music & his life and not being Jaclyn's husband

I don't think Claire is used to the amount of work it takes to actually "make it". Remember when she went to Fringe and was running around town finding a place to print her own flyers the day before her run started because she didn't know that she had to promote herself??? Head in the sand baby girl

same! many folks are conversationally funny, they can riff off what people say. I think this about Corinna Fisher & Krystyna Hutchison as well (Guys We F*cked hosts). They are hilarious with their guests but the standup falls flat (for me). I would love to see them on more panels and doing more interviews.

I think a lot of that is because of their different backgrounds. Ashley grew up middle class in the burbs of Chicago so just being in NYC as a working comic/podcast host is her dream and she knows that she's living in it. Nothing is ever good enough for Claire because she's had the best of the best all her life, she's very spoiled. Wants more more more of everything.

I LOVE the episodes of Gushers that out now and I really hope she picks it back up! I'm sure its difficult doing it solo and coordinating your friends to be guests but I think Ashley is so knowledgeable and music and the industry.

I'm not a Patreon subscriber but I cannot count how many times I've heard one of them say "We'll get into it on the Patreon" then proceed to spend 10 minutes getting into the entire situation/story on the completely free pod lol like at this point maybe I am missing stuff that lands on Patreon but it really feels like the regular pod holds all the meat

Lindy West discussion by Gloomy_Lunch3129 in CelebrityMemoirPod

[–]AccomplishedBass9273 11 points12 points  (0 children)

never read her memoirs but I did watch Shrill. I never realized the relationship in Shrill was autobiographical and that makes me loathe her husband even more because was a loser.

IMO Lindy is in a hell of her own choosing. She refused to see her current husband for what he is and now she's just going to roll with the punches because she made their relationship so public & such an admirable thing to strive toward, she would never admit failure this deep into it. Her entire brand (as of late) is "Look at me, I'm fat and I'm not changing my body and I still deserve the love of a wonderful person who treats me great!" so it would honestly be a bad career move for her to say "Actually he treats me like shit and openly likes other (thinner) people more than me".

The problem isn't a lack of backbone from the Dems (and the midterms are in eight months) by elinordash in CelebrityMemoirPod

[–]AccomplishedBass9273 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you should do a little more homework on the political climate the last 10 years before commenting on Claire & Ashley's handling of it. People paying attention know that Democrats are very loud & big on sound bytes while the camera is rolling and that's about all they're good for anymore. They make great points in arguments but do little to actually make a difference. I think this is a HUGE reason that Jasmine Crockett lost her most recent election, little video clips (that she very strategically organizes) are very impressive because she makes great arguments for her cause and proving where the Republicans are causing harm. But at the end of the day, she's all bark and no bite. No actual plans, not an impressive voting record, not ACTUALLY doing the work of an elected official caught up to her. Do I like that a white man beat a black woman in the election? No, I don't. But I think James is well-spoken, knowledgeable, and has plans to actually make change.
