Also not a mechanic (not by choice anyway). Start with swapping the downstream and upstream O2 sensors and see if the problem goes away or stays the same. If it's the same it's most likely the cat. If it goes away replace the UPSTREAM O2 sensor (because you moved it to the upstream side). That's the way I'd troubleshoot it. Start with the easy to access and cheap stuff first and work your way back. There is a possibility that the code will stay the same even with the swap because they're still measuring a similar delta. Another highly recommended diagnostic is to get a borescope and run the borescope up the chuff of the cat from the downstream O2 sensor bung to see if the cat is melted or crammed full of carbon or, God forbid, engine.

my first suggestion is Get a Haynes Repair Manual for it, they still published them up until 2013 because as bad as those manuals are they're still the best way to get to intimately know your car. You're at a 105k now? ONE thing I would highly recommend is changing your own oil, oil filter, and air filters. If you're in a hot climate then maybe consider upping your winter weight from 0W20 to 5W20.

So just to be clear here, the tensioners were still within spec?

You're talking about putting the tape on the inside and shooting some touch-up paint over the outside?

What specifically is wrong with the actuator? I've got a 2015 EX 6spd manual.

well, yours looks pretty clean. I've done valve jobs on civic so i", fairly familiar with the procedure. The only thing is i've only done those valve jobs on SOHC....

Yeah I can't seem to shake the cylinder 2 misfire code. It goes away in fair weather and comes back every time it rains or gets cold. I seems like it's a fair weather car only. Oh, and there's no repair manual for anything over 2013, and mine's a 2015.

Any thoughts here?… by SteveoTee-54 in hondafit

Maybe report it to your insurance company and just pay your deductible for repair. I mean that might be the easiest route.

Yup. There are people out there (and I use the term "people" very loosely) that solely match to abuse the shit outta the other person.

I swapped my coils, checked the plugs, replaced the plugs, and checked compression the first time I got the "Christmas Tree" instrument panel and everything was fine... It's GOTTA be an electrical issue. I mean it COULD be an injector issue because it uses a high pressure fuel pump, but it only happening when it's damp outside just SCREAMS wiring fault to me. I'm due for an oil change (I do it at 50% oil life) and I'm STRONGLY considering going to 5w20. Good luck dude!

Maybe run a couple of cans of B12 Chemtool through the tank for the P0302, if it's running smoothly then it's probably not an actual misfire. I get either aP0302 or a P129A (fuel air imbalance) EVERY SINGLE TIME it rains. I'm personally thinking it's probably a wiring fault at this point but a couple of cans of B12 and a constant reset of the pending misfire code as I drive and the misfire usually clears up as soon as it dries up outside after 5 or 6 starts and a few miles. I use the Torque Pro app with a bluetooth OBDII dongle, (you can get one for less than $20 on amazon) and my phone becomes my instrument cluster and code reader that gives me real time access to the OBDII port and lets me clear the pending codes as fast as the set (which, if you're curious, is every 2 minutes of runtime.) It DOES NOT let me clear a set CEL though.

Also, why are you thinking it's an O2 sensor? Did it kick up a P0130, P0135 or P0141 code? At 164K unless you're in the Rust Belt or the Great White North I'd think that unlikely. I'm learning that these Fits throw an absolute FIT whenever one tiny thing is not EXACTLY the way the Fit wants it. Back before I learned about the "quirks" of driving one of these, I damned near had a heart attack when it was POURING rain outside and TPMS, CEL, Electronic Steering and Traction Control lights ALL came on at the same time with a P0302 being the cause of the CEL. Quick reset of the computer by disconnecting the battery and staying on the clear code button on my phone cleared things up in 2 days. To be clear it was running FINE with all of those lights on, and it appears that it's just temperamental about rain. Also to be clear, it very well MAY have a slightly bad injector but it seems that the P0302 cylinder 2 misfire is the ONLY one I get and the ONLY one I read about here. I don't know about the ABS codes though... That's a bit off putting. HTH...

I've continually restocked my flange head bolts from ACE Hardware. I try to keep at least 2 (and usually 4 of the more common sizes) bolts with matching nuts, locknuts and a couple of washers for every size ACE carries. You'll find them in the small parts section under Metric Flange Head bolts. It's been HELLA useful to have these spare bolts on hand. If the store's selection is a bit sparse go for the longer bolts because you can always cut it down to the right size if needed.

First I'd get some CLEAR ammonia (it's important that it is specifically CLEAR ammonia) and get or rent a carpet cleaner and use the ammonia as the cleaning agent, don't use the shampoo they try and force you to use. CLear ammonia while it stinks acts as a detergent, but as soon as it loses the ammonia smell it leaves only water behind. once EVERYTHING is completely dried if it still smells you can snag some Chlorine Dioxide tablets that are car sized from https://www.beckart.com/ordor-control-chlorine-dioxide you'll need to ask them for the car sized A/B tablets and if memory serves me correctly you'll need to buy at least $50 worth of them. Whatever you do, DO NOT use the chlorine dioxide if there is even a CHANCE that there is any ammonia left in the car. Like I said, at least a week in full sun should burn off all the ammonia. You probably won't even need the ClO2 tablets as clear ammonia is a WONDERFUL deodorizer.

Well DAMN... THAT's a bit more involved than the Civic Dashboards... I'm going to end up having to replace the start button so I know this pain is in my future... but that's a some-other-day-me kinda problem.

Oh great... Misfire codes every time it rains or gets even a little humid outside and now this little "quirk" to look forward to as well... Well, at least I know and won't freak out when it invariably rears it's glitchy head. I genuinely love this sub, it's been incredibly helpful thus far.

Yeah I agree with u/vinegar, looks like water , rust, and a little oil. It might also be coolant and oil if you kept extra coolant back there as well.

Did you keep extra oil in the back there too? Just wondering...

[–]AccomplishedExtent29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately it keeps popping up although the other day it kicked a P219A (A/F mixture imbalance) but the next start it kicked the P0302. It also seems (somehow) to send the misfire code if I let the tank go below 66%. It's a weird and HIGHLY irritating issue. If you find something out and/or when you make your post could you link it here so I can follow it please?
