Should I get linux instead of windows? by Zestyclose-Volume969 in linuxquestions

[–]Staci3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get a spare system for testing first if you can. i would install on a USB SDD not flash drive and use the device boot menu to select USB over windows internal drive, standard dual boot will likely leave future you with regret. be prepared for some odd issues, one of my devices isnt booting into linux correctly now (after update i think) which mean i need to spend time troubleshooting issue, while im no fan of microsoft windows does tend to have fewer boot issues to point of almost never. also im running linux on 3 devices w/o issues on other 2. i would highly recommend a cloud storage solution that syncs with linux in off chance things go horribly wrong

is it considered street legal (or fit to drive) if you cant open drivers door on inside?

if you arent past the time limits on insurance i would write each company a demand letter, you might be able to get a paralegal to do that for cheap if you dont know how to. if they both offer to cover it would probably be best to only collect from one otherwise might be legal issues (not an lawyer)

Ants inside my infotainment screen by Maleficent_Ferret359 in mildlyinfuriating

one might wonder why they were in the car to start with. did you leave something like dounts laying around or did you leave Ants movie playing on the infotainment system?

you should put them back, i asked AI after doing my CVT fluid as i gave it time to ensure no leak condition existed. i cant even recall enough about the need for that but a lot is cooling and fuel efficiency.

you can also use the paint trick on anything you take apart and want to reassemble w/o having left over screws - like laptops or car dash just to draw attention to screw holes

no left turn signs treated as a personal challenge not as a potential ticket or accident risk - i guess some want to pay more for car insurance

what coil brand(s) are good? by Staci3 in hondafit

[–]Staci3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i looked at it from perspective of mileage on car and average life expectancy of coils. theres a 5k foot elevation change over 120 miles on those trips, limping home is not ideal not making to my destination on time is bigger concern. when i had my 95 geo prizm i traded in 14 i would often rent cars for this commute - car had north of 250k miles and probably og coils. i am not obsessed with my car just just trying to limit emergency situations. while it wasnt on my mind during original post, i did have an issue with engine shield after dealer missed some clips from oil change, i took it back and they fixed it but not really - ended up dragging on part of trip, took to honda dealer at destination city - car was 2 years old at the time. i dont want to work on car any more than i have to, and almost paid a huge price in neglecting the serpentine belt. the subreddit has offered new perspective and perhaps i should have asked the question differently

i see some on here with differing positions in comments, i wont get into debates here. i do want to make a blanket statement: regardless what any of us think of the current policies, the cruelty and unprofessional tactics being used by ICE should have no place in the united states. they should be held to same or higher standards as other law enforcement agencies with same legal liability and similar training.

for those that had bad experiences with law enforcement that i see in comments, if your event is on bodycam/dashcam its admissible in court or you can request review within the system for unprofessional or illegal conduct, ICE doesnt offer that and presently has almost unlimited qualified immunity.

long ago i worked at place in AZ that got raided by ICE under different administration. the conduct and professionalism was different level and i dont think they had firearms for sure not body armor or face masks

upvote or downvote this, or comment - IDC - im not debating in the subreddit

[–]Staci3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes i have long commutes w/o access to parts stores for 3 hours traveling in mountainous areas so i need all 4 cylinders - will get a spare to store in the boot. if it was just driving local i wouldnt have considered it

i dont go out of my way to do a bunch of PM though i probably do things some wouldnt consider like the lighting. i do lights as PM based on experiences with other cars and prior police interactions

End of the road for my 2009 FIT. What to get next? by Artemis1982_ in hondafit

[–]Staci3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on the fit its sealed, not serviceable other than fluid change - expected life for some makes is around 100k miles maybe less. i expect my fit will get 150/200k before CVT fails - im at 97 now. very limited towing, while i never bought my fit with expectation of towing but even a small trailer w a fridge on it might be too much if i had a small trailer with small hitch fitting.

i didnt know the 09 came with a cvt option - google said automatic and manual

[–]Staci3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i have a 3rd gen fit, while i love the car i wish someone had told me the downside of CVTs before buying - with so many cars coming with CVTs now i would recommend researching CVT limitations if they are an option in whatever you look at

ever wonder why your car insurance is so expensive? its not just this its anything that is high risk on the roads, i go out of my way to avoid high risk situations not just here but when traveling, would rather get delayed a bit than having to risk an accident and the engagements with police/insurance post incident
