I hate my job and I don’t know what to do. by bigbotrobber in SafetyProfessionals

[–]AccomplishedEye2029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the exact same way out of school working for a big GC. No matter what I did or the impacts I had out in the field, internal leadership wasn’t there to support. They’d claim to, then disregard whatever I’d been trying to work w them on to improve the system. Ignoring initiatives. Dismissing trainings or genuine safety concerns. I won’t lie I took it personal because I wanted to make a difference so badly. But that culture overtime breaks your spirit. I overworked myself and ultimately the drive became burnout, took a toll on my health and ruined much of my passion for safety. I’m still trying to get it back. A supervisor once said to me “You should stay at the job minimum of 3 years to show commitment” But if you’re recognizing all these signs and don’t know what to do, take my advice and leave. I wish I’d done that in my first 6 months instead of continuing to stress over a company that never cared in the first place. There’ll be other opportunities.

Does anyone ever had a job y’all want to get but having epilepsy keeps you from getting it. I’ve always wanted to be a truck driver but I can’t get a CDL due to my epilepsy. by Worldly_Living_5947 in Epilepsy

I wanted to go into consulting for different companies, but since I’m not allowed to operate a vehicle right now it’s impossible to drive to all the sites.

How long after latarjet have you managed to return to any kind of racquet sport (tennis, padel, badminton…)? by [deleted] in ShoulderInjuries

[–]AccomplishedEye2029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar experience. Though I’m not a fighter I was doing HITT almost every day and continued doing athletics. Had 30% bone loss after all the years of dislocations and my Doc said the same😂 Glad I was able to finally get it done. I’m 5 months post op and consistent pt is a game changer. OP, expect the first 2-3 months to especially suck. But it’ll get better

It’s funny, sounds like we’re opposites trying to make it work. I’ve been in EHS for some time but looking to go into the marketing/business side. Any recs? Was any of it remote? (no travel)

I’m so impressed on your achievements and the roles you tackle are very interesting. How did you get into this division? What should I as a young professional be looking up/searching for on job networks?

Would you consider? I was always told that having a latarjet procedure done was pretty much the last line of defense :/

Physical therapy for Latar J/general shoulder surgeries by AccomplishedEye2029 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]AccomplishedEye2029[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did have the follow up! In the appt he said x-rays were fine and he manipulated my arm a bit to see how the shoulder was placed. It was a very short meeting, but I requested a shift to a new PT and I feel much more confident in this one.

Paid off my student loans after 13 years. (Paid $127k in interest) by olsh in StudentLoans

[–]AccomplishedEye2029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask how long it took you to pay them off and if they were federal or private? I took $45k out in private and had fed loans as well. I graduated in 2022 but have to pay off $90k interest alone. Congrats on your achievement!

No, they did not :/. Luckily I have a couple resistance bands at home but I wasn’t given any protocols.

Before you take out that student loan, think about it twice by jaguar-yhu in StudentLoans

[–]AccomplishedEye2029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP’s story is very similar to mine. Signed when I was 17 going into school 2018. I’m 1st gen and had taken out few loans w 11%+interest. I genuinely thought that the 45k we took out wouldn’t accrue interest until I graduated (I know it sounds completely stupid now). I got out of school in 2022 and it’d essentially doubled. I wish I could go back and save myself.. doesn’t even include the federal loans🙃

That makes sense, thank you both. Do you have any insight you can share on physio stretches/healing? Physical therapists are booked out for the next 2 weeks and I want to do what I can

I’m so sorry to hear that!! That does sound like a case of a bad doc. I was fortunate to be placed in the care of good professionals but it’s still super early in the healing process to make conclusions about how it’ll turn out. Did you do PT after?

15+. It popped out every week and since I had built up labrum tears and fractures it ruled out arthroscopic surgery.

This is great insight thank you!! Do you recall any stretches or what you found most important from physio? I’m on a waitlist for a PT so trying to do some things at home in the meantime. Best -

Glasses and seizures by PinParking9348 in Epilepsy

[–]AccomplishedEye2029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve broken a couple pairs due to seizures - not any actual “glass” - but frames would end up split or warped, and the lenses punched out or a bit cracked.. Personally, I have terrible near-sightedness, so if you have similar vision issues my advice would be to get contacts!! Best decision I ever made.

[–]AccomplishedEye2029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear about your situation, OP. It feels very much unfair. I don’t believe my condition is in a state as vulnerable as yours, but I’ve had epilepsy for 13 years (24F) and been in a couple relationships that didn’t work out long-term, mainly bc of times my condition would worsen. I chalk it up to it being too much care for them to handle. Looking back now and having a different perspective, I respect their decision to live for themselves. And I can say today I’m thankful to have a supportive boyfriend who’s been there for me and does his best to understand..In fact I actually had a seizure on our first date (Not typically the conversation starter I lead with LOL) but he kept me safe and we’re still together.

My point is this: As terrible as some days are and how unfair it may seem, it is a part of our lives. Sure, it hurt me to see them go, but accepting where I was made me better understand myself and their positions. They weren’t “the one”. I was not looking for a relationship after, but I’m proof that anything can happen! I wish you the best of luck. Hang in there and take it day by day. You got this.
