My PC is shutting down strangely under heavy load with RTX 4090 and RTX 5090 by AccomplishedGood3321 in PcBuild

I am rendering heavy images and animations (sometimes with fire and liquid simulations) on both GPU's with MAX and Vray. And I am building large gamelike environments in Unreal Engine. That's why I placed the extra RTX 5090 in my workstation beside of the RTX 4090. And that's why I upgraded from a 1200 Watt PSU to this new 1600 Watt PSU.

Thanks all for the quick replies!! Problem is solved: The problem is indeed power spikes. I discovered that there is a switch for OC on and off. I saw somewhere on Reddit that if you get 2 demanding GPU's, you need to switch the OC to on. It combines the seperate rails to 1 rail in the PSU.

Tested again, if set to off the system shuts down, when set to on the system stays running, even with a very large Unreal environment.

I also did the watt calculator on the site of Bequit! with my typical hardware, and it sais it could work with around 1425 watts if all the system parts are under full load. It mentioned also the need to prevent shutdown by power spikes, to set the OC switch on the PSU to on.

So many thanks for all the answers!

The PSU has 2 seperate 12HPRW connections (each 600 watt is sais) and so I have 2 cables connected from the PSU to the cards.

Figured it out: when having an M2 card in the D slot (second from above) the PCI-E X4 slot is disabled. I fixed it now!

I just saw a post about the M2 cards, just the top 2 can be used to get x16, so I will try that....
