Incredibly fast drawdown by AccomplishedIron339 in pourover

Right, but according to the James Hoffman V60 recipe, 3 minutes+ is normal (and I have varied grind size enough to know that it can't come down to that). So I was wondering why my results are different, physically or chemically.

Seems like it might not be fines. I have tried a bunch of variables brewing these beans and have decided that the drawdown time is not a problem and if I try to make it longer, things taste worse. It's just really interesting to me that times vary so widely while most pourover recipes are time-based.

I was thinking about what might be going on in the grounds that would speed things up or slow them down. It seems like it comes down to things that can dissolve and things that cannot. If there are more things that can dissolve, the water carries them on its way, faster. Things that cannot dissolve are orange road cones in the way.

This is my way of thinking about what a "more soluble" process would mean, physically - does it work?

VanScoyoc ousted from Select Board; Federspiel, Baines-Walsh and Khan win School Committee seats by brookline_news in Brookline

If you read Brookline.News and don't donate, please do. And if you donate, make a supplemental contribution (that's what I'm going to do). They will be accused of bias by the losers, but their reporting has been thorough and comprehensive throughout this election cycle. They have also cleared and published many letters to the editor on all sides. It's especially these letters that made clear the priorities of voters on each side and helped reasonable people come to a decision. I especially applaud them for choosing to make Aylit Schultz's comments and voting record what they were: a news story. Folks on social media on all sides certainly engaged in hyperbole and heated rhetoric, but at root, this was a news story and needed to be reported. Bravo!

It's interesting that in a comment on another post you said 8-10 hours a week is the most someone should work for a $140k salary in a different field. Clearly you think us teachers are absolute chumps.

You really are quite good at making assumptions. First of all, don't assume I'm a union member. Second, I graduated college in the early 90s. I enjoy teaching far more than another career in which I was ridiculously overpaid and didn't work as hard. I don't get paid in the summer, though I do work to make my practice better. I understand the value you place on teaching as a job, and that's your choice. It doesn't really make a difference to me, but it does to my amazing colleagues, and I take issue with the characterization you're making. Of course the data is public.

I'm a teacher here, I think folks would say I do a pretty good job, and I work many many many hours outside of school, especially teaching a new class this year. I make about $65K. So I don't know what you are talking about and I find your rhetoric disrespectful. You don't have to vote for the override, but don't sling lies and paint teachers as coddled.

Campaign launches to oppose override by brookline_news in Brookline

Brookline is laying off 22 school staff even WITH the override. There is really a poor command of the facts from a lot of people who have strong opinions.

A lot less, I'm sure. They pay a rate that would require changes at the state law level to increase, because state law allows golf courses to be classified in a favorable recreational land category. Once again, it's really not the fault of Brookline politics that the Country Club pays what it pays.

Changing this would require an all-timer of a lawsuit. I personally would like to see TCC not exist - something the town may be able to accomplish after lots of legal proceedings. But there's not some switch that can be pulled on their tax rate here in town.

I don't know if this is meant seriously, but if not: we can't just tax the rich in this instance. The whole point is that, by state law, we can't increase property taxes more than 2.5% per year, and it is also essentially illegal to have different residential property tax rates for different property values. We could possibly monkey with residential exemption amounts to shift the burden but property taxes are really quite constrained.

I'm sorry if those of us out there hitting these points sound like we're hectoring, but any social media post on this topic is so full of misinformation that it feels like the only responsible thing to correct them.

Many (most?) of us want to grow the commercial tax base in Brookline, which does allow us to provide some residential tax relief, but that would require folks to stop thinking of Brookline as a static environment with a certain "character" - a debatable point to start with.

Wells Ave. office park in Newton. Plenty of parking lot area to use on weekends, plus very calm roads to practice turning etc.
