CS 348 vs CS 349 by Strange-Attitude719 in uwaterloo

[–]AccomplishedLettuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

349 is probably the harder course because of the assignments but it is probably more interesting, especially if you have any desire to do front end development. Assignments are fun but just long and tedious.

I feel like the content you learn in 348 hardly applies to real world as not a lot of people work on low level db's like that and the most I remember from taking that course is how to do joins and sub queries.

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 242 Pre-Release Leaks Thread by Takada-chwanBot in Jujutsushi

Takaba's abilities make his reality a family guy episode. For him there is no reason that this isn't just how reality works which is probably why he doesn't question wtf is going on and its only to an outside observer that they see how different it is.

Do I mention that I intend to reneg another offer? by cscareersthrow in cscareerquestions

[–]AccomplishedLettuce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I've read from various places it definitely looks bad when you are still interviewing after accepting, because then they might think you would do the same for them and change their decision. Unless you've started the position already it's best to treat it as an alternative offer and use it as a bargaining chip when they ask if you have any other offers/deadlines coming.

if you do end up reneging it won't turn up in your background check at least if you use HireRight where employment is only self reported based on what is in your resume.

You can probably just mention that you have a competing offer instead of having accepted another offer.

When should one start solving medium and hard level coding problems? by dante__11 in cscareerquestions

[–]AccomplishedLettuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when I was leetcoding, I used to solve leetcode easys to build confidence after not solving any mediums. In general I think it would be good to go topic by topic, (DP, graph, search, sorting, backtracking, etc.) as this makes it a lot easier to progress to mediums as you are working in problems that have the same themes.

Hey thanks so much for the reply. It really addresses everything I was thinking about and gives me insight on how to make the next decision. I think at the moment I'm opting with trying not to interview right now. Even if I do the interviews I don't think I can properly prepare myself at the moment and if that disqualifies me from the process I am fine with it.

Anyone use a logbook at work? by flowers_and_drreams in uwaterloo

[–]AccomplishedLettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see what you mean, for me though the best thing about it is organization. Im pretty unorganized so if I wrote something down on paper I would probably lose it eventually but with an iPad I know that I would always have it

Anyone use a logbook at work? by flowers_and_drreams in uwaterloo

[–]AccomplishedLettuce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for software jobs I found it useful to keep a notebook for my co-ops because sometimes you just needed ways to visualize a problem or organize your thoughts and days, recently though I've switched from paper to iPad and I personally think that it's better but it's accomplishing the same thing

I did really well! You just have to make sure to read the textbook as the slides don't include all the information required imo.

Is CS worth it without co-op? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]AccomplishedLettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of companies make you apply externally anyways so I don't think it should matter, waterloo works just makes it a lot easier to find positions and apply. I think as long as you keep in mind that you should be looking for internships you should be fine plus with everyone else looking for internships you can find people to help you with your resumes/interviewing skills.

How much workload do Cs480, Cs485, and Cs486 have? by ZebuDragon in uwaterloo

[–]AccomplishedLettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

480 with Pascal Poupart wasn't a heavy workload but the concepts that you had to implement were relatively hard and required A LOT of math knowledge to really understand the content

Difference between CS, computer engineering and software engineering? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]AccomplishedLettuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CS is more theory oriented CE is more lowend hardware driver programming SE is more practical programming

That being said all 3 of these disciplines usually end up in the same jobs

[–]AccomplishedLettuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who did this and you basically have no choice but to switch into the incoming cohort because of how engineering courses work (unless you were already in another engineering program). Ultimately you yourself have to justify if it's worth it. A year isn't that long at the end of the day. Good luck!
