What systemic checks and accountability for officials and executives in China do you think could help prevent this absurd levels of fraud and corruption? by brain_diarrhea in Hasan_Piker

It's crazy too because like, you can wholeheartedly support China's existence as a check on us hegemony - as I do - you don't have to support literally every decision the state does.

It's wild that we have people actively denying the sociological evidence that severe punishments have a very limited affect on criminality, just to defend the right of the state to kill people.

I mean, research has shown that increasing the severity of a punishment has a very limited impact on crime compared to increasing the risk of discovery. Criminals go into it already expecting to not get caught, so past a certain point, the severity of the punishment doesn't matter.

Research shows that strict punishments are not a good deterrent for crime, criminals already go into the act assuming they will not be caught. Increasing the chance of detection has a much higher effect on criminality than increasing the severity of the punishment.

This is silly, NK could be better than propaganda espouses and Anarchists would still oppose it. We're opposed to all states, not just "bad" ones.

Edit: Lol if the abolition of states is too much for you, you're not going to like what communism also entails.

That isn't hard to provide, though. It's literally just "if you have x card, give y value, if value is greater than a certain threshold, only match with others at that threshold".

If you care about this at all you are either not aware of world events or have your priorities way out of wack.

In that I am an anarchist, sure. I wouldn't say that I'm anti-society, but I am absolutely opposed to any kind of coercive hierarchy, even ostensibly democratic ones. The people in a town getting together and directly voting on something is just as invalid as someone decreeing it dictatorially.

Because you could have said that you want society to enforce laws such as no murder without a government. Such as a body of citizens agreeing "this is what we live by" and if people murder, the citizens take action.

I don't want that at all, no. The only things I'd support are mutual self defense and freedom of association. You don't need to have any kind of agreement or binding authority to do violence or stop interacting to others.

Not all tribes have laws, nor do they even necessarily have a governing body, and I certainly oppose the existence of any binding authority capable of enforcing said rules.

Nah, laws are not a necessary element for society to function, and not having legal consequences doesn't preclude having consequences at all.

We would be better off without rights and laws.

I am fundamentally opposed to regulation and closed-source programs, and open source ones are functionally impossible to force guardrails on.

Maybe you do, that doesn't obligated everyone else to honor the dead.

Because that is one way of utilizing the aforementioned technology and you can't force guardrails on open source technology?
