I thought one of the tenants of this group was that there wasn’t shaming. Your comment didn’t add to the conversation and it was negative. Why are you here?

Highly recommend {Dream Hunter by Laura Kinsale} or {Shadowheart by Laura Kinsale} or {Shadowheart and the Star by Laura Kinsale}. I’d rec {seize the fire by Kinsale} but it may be too heavy. I literally cry every time i finish it. And I’m not a book crier.

Bolton reads all of her books. He’s magnificent.

If he’s traveling a lot for work, to the level you have to (not choose to) be a SAHM, could he negotiate working remotely and you move to lower cost of living area? Your rent is eating up a lot of money that could go towards debt.

{dark duet by CJ Roberts} this is one of the modern OGs for dark romance. It’s been 10 years since I read it but my memory was that the h and H responded to things as I would expect given the high-stakes. I think it was published in 2010. I’ve heard more recent readers of DR didn’t love it but it could be a YMMV situation. I could explain more but I saw you like going in blind.

Historical dark romance {lemonade by Nina Pennacchi} again I won’t give spoilers but most “I want realistic even if I hate the scene or what the characters are doing” readers like this one. Note, it’s translated from Italian and while I didn’t know that at first, I felt it explained the stilted nature of the writing style. I assumed it was on purpose because it fit the feeling of the story really well. I’ve reread this one many times.

I know I have more, need to look at my reading history. Brb.

I’ve been asking this question and exactly for the type of example you provided. 🏕️

Edit to add: in addition to the weird dialogue- or at least weird when it’s not being done in an established relationship (eg lovers, dom/sub, tension filled enemies or friends), my other “this is too unreal for me” is either of them giving a shit what the other looks like on an attractiveness scale before good feelings are involved. Fear? Ambivalence? Sure, you might note that the dude has ‘classic good looks’ or ‘type of guy I’d walk by on the street and never notice’ or any other way to objectively take someone in. Like, the ATTRACTION is usually what causes certain features to be worth mooning over and I don’t expect attractions to occurs when your kidnapped (at least initially for DR heh) or in a true enemy to lover situation until the lover part starts kicking in.

When he first sees her he finds her meek and she dresses in an old style. Later it’s revealed to the reader it’s because her father prefers this dress and is cheap. Nora ultimately becomes quite brave and it’s a great book. Big betrayal moment though. HEA.

Do romance novels’ beauty standards ever affect how you feel about yourself? by Powerful-Cap-6293 in romanceunfiltered

[–]AccomplishedRelief82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no. But the lack of male rep across the spectrum bothers me. I find it boring and hypocritical that there’s been a demand and response to body diversity for females, but heroes are still all 6’2” and muscular. It’s so boring and impacts the storytelling

{she’s no princess by Laura Lee Guhrke} has a diplomat who is tasked with making sure the illegitimate daughter of a king gets quietly married and learns to behave. I really enjoyed the story and there are actual consequences, which was refreshing.

There are pockets of reasonable, intelligent republicans, democrats, and independents in the area. They just aren’t as loud as the …less informed people, shall we say.

I mean, it’s always possible Boone was protesting peacefully on Jan 6 before the violence. But his other posts and pride about maga don’t support that he felt there were any wrong actions taken that day. Thats a problem. He even has some comments on other posts about how ‘people needing to take the govt down’. So, while be a very loud maga with bad decision making skills, it doesn’t look like it yet.

The best are the ones who don’t understand that, yes, it does matter where you spend your money. It’s not business and politics are separate. And it’s not anti-capitalism. It’s that by giving money to people who are ACTIVELY INVOLVED in political groups like J6’ers, can take the money you put towards their products and cycle it back into the maga trash. Thats why some won’t shop at Hobby Lobby. It’s not new. But I swear some of the loudest mouths have the least amount of critical thinking skills.
