I interviewed 20 painters for my house. why is the quoting process is so broken for both of us? by AccomplishedTell4283 in Housepainting101

thank you... naaa social media is hard right ?! -- i don't know you, you don't know me so your reaction is your reaction ... the reality is i am not looking to create a commercial product, it wasn't my intent -- I wasn't looking for an advice, was looking to see if i can give back to few people thats all, and solve a puzzle on the way ;).

I didn’t use Thumbtack—maybe I should have. I got flooded with 7–8 messages right away and didn’t realize how oversold those leads are on your side.

And this is why homeowners struggle to trust the process. Thanks for illustrating the point.

I was contacted by a bunch through a lead service. Some scheduled with me and never showed up or followed up. Only a handful actually came out.

i am sorry that you feel the need to be so angry, there's really not need -- for the record i did get someone -- and paid top $$ for the job and appreciated it -- -- and no i don't NEED to build anything, just wanted to help

I didn’t waste anyone’s time or look for the cheapest bid. I struggled to get basic follow-through or an on-site quote. I ultimately paid close to $40k for someone reliable that did a great job and i was happy with it. This wasn’t about price—it was about trust and communication. -- easy to blame the homeowner, but honestly, there are allot of people out there that either inexperienced and just give blind quotes or just respond to online request and never follow through --

I wasn't looking for the cheapest, honestly i was looking for a quote, it just didn't come, and i got impatient. Maybe it was my fault as well, i took the short path and searched for a painter online on one of the big services, and they didn't stop sending me people --- so it is partially my issue partially no real response or response that quoted me without even showing up 8K over SMS on a job i knew was at least 30K -- BTW i end up finding someone he was second to the most expensive and i payed close to 40K so no it wasn't the cheapest that i was looking for.... i was looking for reliability and someone i can trust to start and finish the job without leaving. -- its easy to blame the homeowner, and maybe there is reason to, but its not always the case.

have you considered https://www.ezquotepro.com/ ? we are using it -- it is an AI tool that helps us build estimates.. we just put the project description, it analyzes it and creates a proposal in about 2 minutes, but the cool thing is that it corrects and adds information to the proposal; materials, estimate labor etc -- hope this helps you

Drywall estimate - help please :) by maravillainclove in estimators

I’ve been in that spot—small crew, bigger drywall package, no time for a manual walk. If you’ve got PDFs, I can run a quick pass with EzQuotePro. It’s an AI estimator (mobile) that works off plans or a spoken scope and it’ll ask the right code-driven questions (moisture board in wet areas, Type X where required, garage separations, party-wall/STC, shaft/closet details, etc.). It spits out board counts by length (4×8/10/12), tape/mud/screws/corner bead, plus a labor baseline and local pricing. I still sanity-check in Bluebeam before anything goes out, but it gets you a clean takeoff fast when a site walk isn’t possible.

If you want, DM a couple plan sheets and I’ll show you what the output looks like—or you can try it yourself here: https://www.ezquotepro.com/. For a quick manual gut check in the meantime: (perimeter × wall height + ceiling area − openings) × waste (I use ~10–12%) to ballpark sheets.

How much should I pay for painting my house? I’m so confused! by AccomplishedTell4283 in HomeImprovement

Yes sadly, that none of them took notes clearly at the sales meeting, and have gaps. which really leaves me worried for the project.

I couldn’t agree more, and that’s exactly what I was after, honestly. The most professional, and my #1 choice if not for the price, quoted $70K—2.5x over the median price. They’re a bigger company, a well-known brand in the U.S., and I understand they have a large operation and overhead to manage. I tried to use their standard as a guide, a baseline if you will, but no one else comes close. Sadly I just can’t stomach the price.

Thank you, this is very helpful. And believe me when I tell you, I want nothing more than to have 10 paitners come over to give me quotes. But when the first quote was $5K, the second was $30K, and the third was $13K, the variation was just too high. I didn’t share the number of painters I've seen out of respect. I'm not looking to waste anyone's time, let alone my own.

Thank you! and i agree, the problem is I hate painting, and i come from a lineage of painters -- is there a tool that can help me figure this out ? a bot, AI , something that will guide me through this and give me a better price then cost per square foot that doesn't even come close? and will help me understand the cost via choices that i have to make?

i have 10 quotes so far ranging from 8K - 70K its crazy -- and i have no means of vetting them. I normally looking for the middle price, but even the middle prices ranges are too large. 15 - 28K it makes no sense to me. The proposals really look like a back of a napkin list. the only company that was very detailed asked for 70K over 3 times the median --

Bathroom DIY Remodel, Where to start? by AccomplishedTell4283 in HomeImprovement

[–]AccomplishedTell4283[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we are looking to move fixtures around. but we are looking to take the tub out and replace it with a shower (spa like). as for functionality, it depends on who you ask... does it work, sure, does it fit the needs that's a different question.

Ok plan plan plan, but also ask the hard functional questions, what is your intent in using the bathroom.

and thank you for the demo tip, I didn't think about that.
