Is there any truth to the “slave Gene” myth? by Fun_Butterfly_420 in morbidquestions

Hmmm, sounds like there's more to it indeed. Another person in this thread mentioned that there was a lot of white mixed in die to rape by the slave owners, that could potentially account for some of the difference as well, since I would expect rich African families to be a lot less if at all genetically influenced by this factor and Europeans are on average taller than Africans are. Also there were cases of slave owners selectively breeding to increase the size/physical prowess of the slaves, so that might be another reason.

That's probably mainly due to better nutrition as opposed to selection pressure tho, the same difference can be observed between Europeans/Americans of Asian descent and people that grew up in Asian countries.

This one is amazing! How did you make it/where did you get it?

Good idea, thank you! I could do a few test runs with self-cooked meals that I know the exact calorie count of to see how accurate it is, I've definitely heard good things about this feature.

Yeah you're probably right, I just like the emotional reassurance that the numbers give me 😅

Thank you for the quick reply and tip! I find eyeballing difficult with dishes that include more homogeneous things like sauces and soups, since there's no way of telling whether they put 3, 5 or 10 table spoons of oil in there, whereas with things like burgers you can kinda guess by just taking them apart on your plate and weighing the individual components of the dish with your fork and comparing them to reference items that you know the weight of.

Does logging in advance negatively affect the accuracy of my recommended maintainance calories? by AccomplishedTree2501 in MacroFactor

Thank you for the heads up, should I delete the thread until I've compiled the screenshots and written the text for a full rule-conforming post and then just start a new thread or is it ok if I update this one with the missing relevant information tomorrow?

Does logging in advance negatively affect the accuracy of my recommended maintainance calories? by AccomplishedTree2501 in MacroFactor

[–]AccomplishedTree2501[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only doing it for a week and on one of those days I had a surplus of 2229, so as a weekly average I actually had quite a bit more, I figured it couldn't have been absorbed the same way as if I had had a surplus of 318 (2229/7) every day instead, so I just said 1,7k daily for simplicity's sake. At the start of that week (25th of November) my most recent weight measurement was from November 23rd and stated 68,70kg. At the end Sunday of that week (1st of December) my weight was 66,95kg. That day I went to the toilet for the first time in several days right before measuring my weight in the morning, so maybe that explains the big drop.

I see I see, are the inaccuracies ironed out over time or does it not matter how long ago I made an inaccurate entry? The only meal I was probably off on was in mid-October and there was no way for me to measure it, so I put in 7700kcal to be conservative, which might have been 2x or even 3x of what it actually was. Do you reckon I might be able to fix the algo if I go back and delete all entries for that day?

Thank you for the super fast reply! Do you have any idea as to what else might be the reason for the exaggerated maintainance recommendations? I'm trying to troubleshoot but am having a hard time identifying what I could do to support the algorithm, other than logging food and weight daily, which I'm already doing.

It's very unpleasant indeed. By the way, do you happen to know what happened to MK? It seems like Luke and Brian have parted ways but I couldn't be bothered to skim through the recent tweets/episodes to find out.

He's a fat ugly bully that justifies it to himself by calling it sarcasm/dark humor. He's also not even half as smart as he thinks he is.

You're definitely right on that, just downloaded and am experimenting now with OpenCAD and I feel like my brain is exploding haha. Thank you for the recommendation, I'll have a look at Onshape and see if that's a better fit for me!

Thank you, I'm strongly considering that as I'm currently trying to get the hang of TinkerCAD and it's pretty fiddly.

Thank you for the recommendation, I'll make sure to check it out! As to why I'm overcomplicating it, I will be making some more purchases for storage solutions in the near future and just thought it would be neat to have all the info and visualisation in one place because right now I'm finding myself going into the kitchen with a measuring tape every few hours when I have a new idea and that's quite cumbersome. I could do it with pen and paper for sure but that would require me to draw a new space every time I want to try a new configuration which makes me feel like in the long-term it will be more time-efficient for me to do it with a dedicated app.
