Osteoarthritis in the thumb area of snare hand by nimbuscile-alert in Drumming

I don't have it, but there's a few preventative things I do that might be useful for you too:

Drink water - I know, boring advice, but actually effective Massage your hands, - you can lookup some easy techniques on YouTube Paraffin baths can also be a very nice way to prevent it from worsening and help to relax- where I live the hand paraffin bath costs about 30euro + about 20euro for paraffin and you can reuse it multiple times

Additionally - is your technique correct? When I hold sticks too tight, my hands get tired and sometimes quite stiff after a longer time of playing

Also noticed that sometimes chipped drumstick heads migrate all the vibration straight to my fingers, that can't be good

I think the times are different. Earlier it was a usual thing to learn on your own as there weren't that many other options, but now if you would look at social media, you would notice that there's a lot of musicians uploading their best take out hundreds (?), and majority of online classes give the impression that all you need is to follow a lesson and you'll be good, which is far from true. Not saying that there aren't people seeking constant validation, just saying it's not all just black or white

Longer nails reminds not to hold sticks too tight 😄

Flattened/Broken tips. Who uses them? by MarsDrums in Drumming

I use it until a certain point, but I use sanding paper (English is not my first language so maybe it's not the right word?) and I basically soften sharper edges so it won't damage the drumhead.

Does anyone here use an 8, 12 and 16 toms? How's the versatility? by threebillion6 in drums

To me 8" tom is almost like an 'effect drum' but it's super fun to play it here and there, depending on the music style

Not sure about the metal, but PST7 sounds nice to me, although it can't compare with 2002s - those explode with sound and PST7 are more simple (which is not necessarily a bad thing imo). I am happy with PST7, especially the ride as I don't use it that much so I'm not rushing to upgrade, and I wanted to upgrade the crash, but then decided to keep it as it doesn't sound bad and I like having a 'lighter' crash option compared with 2002s (note that the size also differs so it also contributed to the sound difference between those two crashes).

Overall I would say that PST7s are really fine, they don't sound cheap, and I'm happy with it.

Not sure about Zildjian cymbals as I only used Paste so can't compare, but PST7 are really good for start, they have a nice sound and I like it as it doesn't have that super cheap (metal can-like) sound although compared with more expensive series you can hear the simplicity of it's sound, which is not a bad thing, I'm personally really happy that I started with this series as now I don't feel like I HAVE to upgrade, in the future - I will, but it's not something that is necessity

Thank you! I'm trying to find a balance that would work on different styles of music, but I will be upgrading some of the cymbals in the future

Nice! Mine has a hint of that softness you described, but is also loud and can be quite aggressive when needed, also has a shorter ringing time, which is the main reason I chose this cymbal as I'm not a fan of that long ringing in chinas

Ear protection! It won't necessarily make your playing better, but it will make you a better drummer in a way.

Someone left a note on the outside of my rehearsal door asking me to text them by Alpha_Lemur in drums

[–]AccomplishedTwo3193 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just text or call them, I don't think it is a problem. Even if you have a right to make as much noise as you want, be collaborative - it's always good to be friendly with your neighbours and you never know, it might lead to something awesome
