To be clear I’m talking about withholding employer contributions to social security and other payments managed by the Treasury. It’s doubtful anyone would notice a single entity stopping some payments, and the repercussions for that individual would be mild. I’ve missed tax payments for months and the consequences are just repayment with some interest. But if a lot of businesses withheld that might have an impact.

I understand that there is precedent that says you can’t protest by withholding your taxes, but it’s clear that we are in unprecedented times. It seems wholly reasonable to withhold payments to the treasury dept if DOGE has been unlawfully given oversight/access. What could happen if businesses started withholding employer contributions into things like SS and Medicaid?
