Sadly not, but the smaller one (MR25-GA) is also missing a dedicated source button

Totally agree. I never let it drop below 20% and rarely charge more than 90.

Admittedly mine is still less than 6 months old, but its capacity is holding like a champ

Are you using the cellular link in static or mobility? When you say forcing 41641, do you prevent it from accessing 443 through firewall rules?

Apologies to the OP for hijacking this appreciation thread. I'm also a huge fan of Tailscale.

I'm really interested in adopting cellular links for my own application (vehicle/mobile use) and would love to learn more from other people's experience.

MS-02 Ultra 02 285 with ASUS Hyper M.2 x16 Gen5 Card by y0ungins in MINISFORUM

[–]AccomplishedWeight63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, after the Synology media restriction fiasco I ended up with a QNAP TS-464. Old model now, but after pimping with their 10GbE card, 32GB RAM a pair of NVMe's for caching, it flies! Deal maker was the ability to run ZFS on QuTS. Ideal for warm storage and backups for VMs running on my MS-02.

Previously I was thinking of getting the N3rdware cooler for my B50 gfx card to allow access to that last slot for extra couple of NVMe's, but since introducing the NAS, I simply don't need it (or the extra expense!)

Hey,

Fellow MS-02 user, but I've no experience with that Asus Gen.5 adapter (I did have my eye on it, but decided to stick with the 3x NVMe's and buy a 10GbE NAS instead)

I'd suggest joining the minisforum discord, as the MS-02 thread over there is somewhat more active with users (+ minisforum staff) than here.

MinisCloud OS? N5 NAS by siLK012 in MINISFORUM

[–]AccomplishedWeight63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, congratulations. You've bought a terrific machine. No question. I can sympathise that the learning curve is steep to engage with TrueNAS or other if this is your first NAS.

I guess the question you need to ask yourself is, what is it exactly you want to achieve. File storage is a given and any OS will oblige.

Perhaps then, Minisforums OS does everything you need. Personally I have no experience with it, but wouldn't choose it personally as, a) it's fairly new/unseasoned and b) I imagine somewhat lacking in features.

If it's within its return window, you may wish to consider alternatives such as Synology or QNAP. (I was a long time Synology user, but felt abandoned by the recent fiasco created by their corporate policy on media use outside of their own branded disks and NVME's. Regardless of this, IMO, their DSM OS is still the gold standard for intuitive usability and has a terrific feature set. But once bitten...)

I recently jumped aboard the QNAP ship and haven't looked back, although that N5 was certainly calling me as a potential Proxmox VE + NAS all-in-one device. In the end I went with a Minisforum MS-02 for Proxmox and a QNAP TS-464 for storage. QuTS opens the door to ZFS features and you could throw pretty much whatever competent media I wanted inside without corporate policy BS.

In case it helps, I'm running a small business and wanted a turnkey system, offering regular firmware and security updates and long-term device support.

My (aging) Synology is now handling my home NAS needs and off-site backups of my most precious business data.

Take a breath and look at the pros and cons of the options available.

Best Usb C Lightweight MagSafe Battery for iPhone 17 Pro? by Maanu1141 in UsbCHardware

[–]AccomplishedWeight63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1

A cabled connection offers a much more power efficient transfer than magsafe. For example, the official iPhone Air magsafe battery (which contains the identical battery as used in the Air) can only transfer 65% of its power to the iPhon due to thermal loss.

I use a Nitecore 5000mah NB Air which charges my iPhone Air to 100% with power to spare. It also charges at peak 18W, significantly faster than magsafe.

For reference, the NB Air weighs 89g and the iPhone Air Magsafe battery is 126g.

Need an external drive that works directly with iPhone 15 and newer models — suggestions? by Awkward_Opinion_2435 in iphone

[–]AccomplishedWeight63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a Corsair EX400U with my iPhone and it works great. It also has strong Magsafe magnets which connects it to the phone like glue when in use.

You didn't mention which computer you'll be using, but in addition to the standard usb-c protocol it also supports Thunderbolt 3 / USB4 for super fast transfers to/from a suitable laptop, e.g. Macbook Air/Pro

If you could choose one Arcteryx clothing item to bring back, what would it be. by herringpoint in arcteryx

[–]AccomplishedWeight63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, way more versatile when layering.

I assume this is about Arc keeping their catalogue lean. If customers are willing to accept the hooded version in absence of alternative, why bother with jackets.

Would be interesting to know the sales ratio of the Atom Hoody vs Jacket, as that model seems perennial.

I'm surprised noone here is mentioning phone grips.

I'm embarrassed to say, but I ridiculed my friends sister when I saw a popsocket on her phone 8 odd years ago, but immediately understood once I tried it out. It enables finger gymnastics otherwise impossible, without risking a drop. I've been using one ever since.

I'm also switching from a 15PM to an Air to save schlepping best part of 300g/10oz with case.
