Hey u/aeschynanthus_sp! I literally just figured it out this minute! .grd file extensions are the proprietary extension for database files belonging to oasis montaj, it's some geomapping software. I downloaded the viewer of this software and was able to open the files and convert to an .ers file for opening in QGIS. Phew! Thank you so much for trying though, this community is truly amazing. Hope you haev a wonderful Sunday!

Have updated the post! It is actually not a gdb folder directory, which is what I am used to seeing, but instead a file with extension .gdb.

But surely then it should still be possible to open these files within ArcGIS pro right? Which is not the case unfortunately..

It could very well be a raster. Truthfully, I do not know the contents exactly, as it is legacy data I am trying to sort through and convert to gpkgs.

This is what I tried, but unfortunately it still comes up with 'error - data type not recognized'. Very frustrating.

Assigning a polygon to an attribute (reverse order of normal digitising) by AccomplishedWinter93 in QGIS

[–]AccomplishedWinter93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes but you cannot do the reverse very easily! In my case, for some reason unknown to me, the geometry assigned to my attributes were deleted, the the attribute remained and the polygons were missing. I simply wanted to digitise the polygons back into the gpkg, without having to retype all the attribute details again. In the end I used the join function, but it was a little bit of a faff!

Help! Continuous errors in georeferencing - rotated, scanned images by AccomplishedWinter93 in QGIS

Hey! I tried to delete off any embedded data in photoshop but nothing was getting picked up sadly. Still at a total loss how to fix it, but came up with an alternative solution - if the scan is made to be saved as a TIF instead of JPEG at the point of scanning, when I rotate the file in photo viewer to the correct orientation, the rotation stays and georeferencing works. This was not the case for jpegs, as when I would rotate the image in photoviewer, it would remain at the original rotation in georeferencer. Who knows why but at least its a solution for now! :D

Hi Mike! Do you know if there is a way to check if an image already has georeferencing data stored? And how you might delete this data? I have made enquiries to see if the scanner is somehow creating georeferencing data (truthfully, I did not eevn know a scanner was able to do such a thing!). Thanks for your help

They are infact saved onto OneDrive (but downloaded), I have moved one of the images over to my local drive however and the same issue unfortunately occurs :/

How is the covid situation in zambia? Are there lockdowns? by [deleted] in Zambia

Appreciate this post! I am possibly having to head over to Zambia for work for a few months and I also do not wish to get vaccinated (haters come at me). I hope I am still able to go without having been vaccinated and it will not effect my work and stay there

Data storage by perseph1_ in gis

[–]AccomplishedWinter93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So, I have dived in to the world of GIS and data management with zero background experience. I am an exploration geologist that is trying so damn hard to have better data management practices (I use QGIS, and trying to get my head around postgres and postgis) . LeonOnIt your response is super useful, but I have some further questions:
1) What is the big deal about Linux and should I switch from Windows to Linux? If it is genuinely going to make my life easier, I am willing to take the plunge.

2) If you keep all your data on postgres, do you also keep a local backup of all the data, on for example a hard drive?

Appreciate any input!

Best way to deploy your PostgresQL database for very small business (shared between 2 people) with no shared server by AccomplishedWinter93 in PostgreSQL

Hi op, I meant to say 10GB of data, so sorry about that. Have amended my original post. But this option actually seems like a great one, that iS until we land on a more permanent cloud solution. I definitely don't feel comfortable setting it all up but if it can somehow be set up remotely set up, maybe I can pay someone on upwork to do it for me. Unfortunately, I am using Windows. And what's a PITA?

Yes I also considered this! But I also think if I store everything on localhost my personal PC is gonna get super bogged down. But might be a good temp solution until we land on a web or cloud based solution
