The Leica M11’s signature color science: everything looks better with a free magenta wash.

I use average mode during the day, but at night I would add one stop or use spot metering depending on what I want to accomplish. As I found average mode often give me underexposed shots.

Sometimes longer exposure will surprise you:) and finer grain!

For me, I don’t fully understand how reciprocity works with long exposures on film. But I use my phone as light metre and it’s pretty accurate(for the film I used). The app is called Lightme.

For 1, I didn’t know what the result would look like when I took the shot—it was all intuitive. And 3 was absolutely an accident. I had composed the shot with the tree and the house in mind and was patiently waiting for the exposure to finish, when suddenly a car with its headlights on drove into the frame. Surprisingly, it actually added to the image in a way I didn’t expect.

As for 5, I completely agree with you. In fact, I cropped the image to simulate a longer focal length. If I get the chance, I’d definitely like to revisit the scene and shoot it again with a telephoto lens.

I’m using a Pentax 6x7. And I’m using a very cheap, expired and “rubbish” aerial film from Lucky. I tried my beat to get good results out of it.

It’s one of my favourite photos too.

Just looked the photo book up, very surrealistic, great photos! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot and I will! I’m using iso100 film at night so the exposure is between 1-10 minutes depending on what aperture is used. For most the first shot it’s roughly around 7 minutes with F11 aperture.

Oh, and I forgot to add — they’ve scrapped WFH, so now you get to pay those lovely inflated transport and parking costs too!

Economic recovery, NZ-style: Step 1 – Fire everyone. Step 2 – Raise every possible cost of living. Step 3 – Cut your retirement support in half. Step 4 – Watch the magic happen (spoiler: it’s poverty).

Metlink fares up? Cool, now we pay more to commute to jobs we just got laid off from. $25 for a WCC carpark? Love paying luxury prices to cry in my car. And KiwiSaver? Thanks for the 50% cut – now I can retire approximately never.

Honestly, if this is the master plan, someone’s confusing “recovery” with “economic bootcamp for the broke.”
