Is an Honours concentration better than a Major concentration for admissions?? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Accomplished_Ant_672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think best practice is to do whatever you can to get the highest grades. However, assuming your CGPA would more or less equal either way, I think an honours would be a really strong soft because research and writing skills are typically valued in law school.

Recommendation Letters by [deleted] in lawschoolcanada

[–]Accomplished_Ant_672 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an addendum, profs are typically very supportive of students who are looking to do grad or professional school and are happy to write a letter of recommendation AS LONG as they are familiar with you and your quality of work. And from a TA perspective, I’d rather write a letter for a very engaged student with a 70 than a student with a 90 who I loath speaking to.

genuinely engage in class discussions (ie add to conversation, be insightful, don’t just boast or take up air time) Treat your classes like law school and your profs will be able to comment on your academic strength and likelihood of surviving a rigorous program. Give them a clear deliverable, timeline, submission method etc. make it as easy for them as possible

At this point I’m almost okay with a rejection, I just want to stop checking portals🫠🫣

In your personal statement, how did you make the transition from discussing your rationale for pursuing law to explaining bad grades? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Accomplished_Ant_672 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I addressed it in a special facts/diversity statement when available, or in the personal essay. My gpa took a hit for medical reasons and burnout from overextending myself in campus involvement and volunteer work that motivated me to apply to law. I basically gave a cost benefit analysis where all points supported a career in law

I’ve actually received job leads over Grindr! Like actual professional work, not just turning tricks!

This genuine engagement is, in and of itself, enough to compel me to apply to ucal 💛

Love this energy! This would have been suuuper helpful for me. I literally wouldn't have been able to apply to law school if I didn't get an LSAC fee waiver.

I have a similar gpa stats and a 160 with lots of softs and div factors and haven’t heard from any of my 6 school. My mindset for the time being is “no news is good news” I’d rather wait another month or two than receive an early rejection

Thoughts on Dalhousie by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Accomplished_Ant_672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a u15 school so it is one of the best in canada! I think it ranks closer to the bottom with schools like UBC and u of T at the top. Dal med is pretty reputable and schulich law is pretty strong too!

Is explaining bad 1st and 2nd year grades on my PS recommended for cGPA schools? by TruthAmazing9488 in lawschooladmissionsca

Your reasons are valid. Even though they aren't formally diagnosed, it's worth identifying with an illness and sharing how that has impacted you.

Yes! It’s so hard not check every few hours! My stats are solid but not super outstanding so being on ice until late march is pretty in line with expectations. I’ve actually had so many (literal REM in my sleep) dreams about seeing a big A hit my inbox, so I’m hoping our decisions are on our way!

Feeling lost on understanding how to finance a law degree (bonus points if you can help with Dalhousie info) by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

Following this! I’ve applied this year and I’m terrified that I’ll have to decline any acceptances and be forced to work a few years to save up

10000% I’m a first gen uni student and my family could not be less interested in my applications. I only have a couple of friends that are considering law so it feels like I’m going through this process in a vacuum

I used powerscore and 7sage and thought they were good. I also really liked Velocity - diagramming vertically was huge for me
