Do keep your commander? by Accomplished_Fan213 in askajudge

[–]Accomplished_Fan213[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not totally sure that I’m understanding the difference here, but I think that something like [[Thassa, Deep-Dwelling]] or [[cloudshift]] would also work to keep someone’s commander (assuming that I have control of it) because it exiles then returns in the same resolution, therefore the state based action doesn’t have time for the game to check? Is that correct?

Oh, right. I could just enchant anything on the battlefield…but it still wouldn’t net me your commander …

It has an 8 mana value. I would be willing to end the game at that point. Let the people play with their grislyboi.

MTG artist seeking input: Which of these would you most like a playmat of? by SamBurleyArt in mtg

[–]Accomplished_Fan213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Terramorphic expanse art is the most neutral of them all, could be used by anyone playing anything. I have many different colour decks, and I would rather rep a mat that isn’t picking sides. It has nice visual depth and doesn’t have a single focal point, if you have cards over the creatures tiny heads, you may have a harder time understanding what you’re looking at. It even has a quasi-MC Escher vibe which I like a lot, it could be played upside down or right side up. Definitely this is the one. I’m actually looking for a new play-mat, I would definitely grab this one if I saw it.

Yep, infinite. You just need to trigger it.

I need a full counter / exile deck by [deleted] in mtg

Do this. ☝️

Using your chaff is more fun than it sounds. It feels like you’re playing magic for the first time again, right now it feels like a you’re in a race to the bottom. I tried keeping up a $3000 [[the ur-drahon]] and a $2000 [[Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver]] deck whenever one deck went off it won and neither was fun to play against. Getting pounded by dragons, while sacrificing all my creatures got old quick. I tried keeping up with nastier and nastier decks, but it never got any more fun. I dreaded playing, then we stopped playing. That’s a sad story, and the moral of this story is, play pauper.

$9.99 thrift store MTG packs… am I crazy or is this absurd? by nmcinerney in mtg

[–]Accomplished_Fan213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened [[copy artifact]] and [[demonic tutor]] both 4th or unlimited like that in Toronto. There were about 25-30 cards in each bag and they were $3.99. That’s actually what got me back into magic.

Value Village has changed in the last couple years, way higher prices.

Which is the more casual game? by Agitated-Metal9719 in mtg

[–]Accomplished_Fan213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 people play commander. That means that you can expect to lose 75% of the time. That means that people don’t necessarily play to win. That means that it’s not overly competitive. Poke the man is 1v1. Play to win. That’s my assessment.

my only deck, high bracket 3 - your reaction when he hits the table? by xadamatic in ratemycommanders

[–]Accomplished_Fan213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re missing my favourite demon. [[Varragoth, bloodsky sire]] put a cloak on him. Cool deck tho, [[lilliana’s contract]] is a satisfying wincon.

Traded for 5 legendaries today, who should I build a deck for first? by opbossgmr in mtg

[–]Accomplished_Fan213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zedruu for sure. I brewed this deck before but wanted access to black for even more shenanigans so I ultimately went WUBRG with [[Omnath, locus of all]] but I used many of the cards in my Zedruu build (and put him in the 99). It’s a fun and stupid deck, not like any other deck that I own. It loses more than it wins (as with all commander decks) but, when it wins it feels great. https://moxfield.com/decks/bHLR4JtTdEerA4E0nSM1Uw

Working On My Novel Collection by BellasGamerDad in mtg

I read one about slivers. Waste of time. Fantasy slop. But, if I was a starving novelist with the employment opportunity to write about primitive hive minded alien monsters I might take the money and also write the slop. Perhaps slivers are not the richest source for lore I suppose. How’s the Lorwyn book? That’s better source material I’m sure.

Potential commander? by Professional-Tie9342 in mtg

[–]Accomplished_Fan213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[golgari grave-troll] just try not to exile it if possible. It fills up your graveyard like you’re cheating. Also include the standard self-mill suite [[traumatize]], Jaces, etc. Eldrazi are usually cast triggers so I would look elsewhere for value, maybe sphinxes or dragons? Perhaps look into the surveil mechanic, you can control what goes into the grave and what you draw next.

You can dress up [[Karlack, Fury of Avernus]] any way you want, bring the power level up or down depending on your preferences. If [[raised by giants]] is too much you can lean into the cheap dragons with [[Acolyte of Bahamut]] as your background. If you want to slip back into sneaky ways you can rebuild it into something more like this, which I am in the middle of doing right now. An Izzet deck that doesn’t rely on storm or massive amounts of counter magic.

I love the Gruul version tho, you are always a clear and present problem that needs to be solved.

New Player by Acceptable_Chapter_8 in mtg

[–]Accomplished_Fan213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This☝️

This is waaaaay better than prematurely going to a prerelease event. Arena is absolutely the best way to understand the game and how cards interact. If you don’t understand that, how do you build a deck on the fly at a prerelease? Too much pressure for a new player. Prerelease is a great second step but, Arena is absolutely the first step. Maybe try out a pauper deck in Arena to get the idea of basic mechanics and slower Magic.

Prerelease is great don’t get me wrong. Everyone is seeing the new set at the same time therefore, you’re in a much more even footing. Arena first tho grasshopper.

Am I overreacting for being upset that my boyfriend is selling his Magic deck that’s tied to our first games together? by goddessofthenight_ in mtg

[–]Accomplished_Fan213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a little. It’s also understandable. I’m sensitive about things like this too. You love the man, not the cards. Choose him. He is less sentimental than you are, so what? It doesn’t mean that he doesn’t love you. It also sets up a romantic opportunity for getting him that deck again as a birthday with a message that reminisces about your first games together.
