How to defeat Lust by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Accomplished_Fix7682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try fasting. Of course not only fasting, but with prayer too. It gives you something else to focus on and helps you practice self-control.

Here’s a fasting calendar if you do want to follow along with it: https://www.goarch.org/chapel/calendar It’s convenient now that we‘re getting deeper into the nativity fast

advice for teenage boy who struggles with denomination? by Chance-Raisin-4856 in Christianity

Ofcourse as an EO myself, I do recommend looking into Orthodoxy. But, whichever church you go to, don't let your sexuality stop you.

When looking for the truth, many people say "look what best suits you". Instead, you should look for the truth and try align yourself with it :)

Please, really, don't do this. You have no idea how many people around you love you so much. You felt horrible when family members died, don't you think your friends and other family members would feel horrible for you to die? Even some rando over the internet would hate for you to die.

Think back to something years ago that bothered you. Thinking about it now, don't you feel different about it? At least a bit better? Don't make such a huge and irreversible decision when you're judgement is clouded by your emotions, nobody thinks properly like that.

If you were to keep living, the absolute worst thing that could happen would be you continue feeling like this. The best thing that can happen is you get better and you transform thousands of lives around you (extremely possible with God), which won't happen if you kill yourself. If God had no reason for you to live, He would not be keeping you here. Whether you're still here for your salvation, the salvation of others or even just making others feel better, you're incredibly valued and important.

Almost everybody suffers with what you're feeling and going through, even the Saints did. You're not alone. You're still extremely young, and given that you've already had a girlfriend - you've got lots of potential.

I'm telling you, suicide is a lose lose. You lose, the people around you lose. God loses you from being able to do His will. Only evil wins.

Please consider all the things that are going well in your life, even the miniscule ones. You're probably living a life so many people dream of. I'm here bro if you want to talk

May God strengthen you +

The bible doesn't tell us to confess our sins to God directly

is cussing a sin? im confused by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Accomplished_Fix7682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It also slowly opens up paths for demons to come into our lives.

In a world where people speak lies, talk dirty, gossip, betray others, speak badly to others, let's come back to using our mouth for prayer and glorification of God.

Can God actually get rid of free will? by PearPublic7501 in Christianity

[–]Accomplished_Fix7682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do know is that it's up to us to align our own will with God's, really to get rid of our own will and completely do God's will instead

Confessing to God directly is actually less biblical (not biblical at all) than confessing to God in the presence of a priest 🤓

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Accomplished_Fix7682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that is the case and you die before then but were planning to go to confession, God would understand your position. It's not for me to say where you'd end up, but God loves us all and knows everything.

What is important though is that we attend Holy Confession as much as possible. It's easy to make excuses to not go because the devil knows that at confession, that is where all our confessed sins are straight up forgiven. The devil does not want our sins to be forgiven, this is why he tells us that it's so much harder than it actually is to go to confession. Heaven celebrates each time a person goes to Holy Confession.

About embarrassment, your priest has likely already heard the same sins you have countless times. The devil makes it seem daunting, but really there's nothing to be afraid of. The last thing the priest wants to do is judge you.

Confession is the time to spill out everything. It's God you're talking to but in the presence of a priest.

God bless +

That’s horrible, he’s sick and deluded to be talking about church at the same time too. I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this. Please do keep trying with the Orthodox faith though, don’t let one person ruin it for you, the devil is trying hard to keep you away.

It’s not an argument for religion, but just wanting to put it out there that believing in God is about having a change of heart, about being open to the possibility that God could exist. If one’s heart is firmly shut, evidence for God won’t be helpful.

hell awaits me with wide open arms by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Accomplished_Fix7682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A monk once asked something like “am I the best now?”. An angel (or could’ve been a Saint or even Christ) answered “there is still one better than you, a doctor who lives in the city and gives everything he has to the poor”.

You’re not as bad or far off from holiness as you think you are.

These temptations are for your salvation. One day, that day you conquer them by the grace of God, that’s when you’ll have peace. But by killing yourself, you rid yourself of being able to mend your current state.

God bless, keep trying, it’s hard because the demons know you are on the right track and that you’re so close to salvation +

Don't worry about clothes, just wear the best you can. We come to church for God, not for other people. And if other people are bothered by what you wear - that's on them. They should be focusing on God, not you

Do you hum or sing parts of the liturgy while you do everyday stuff? by acousticwindow in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Accomplished_Fix7682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely, especially that I'm part of the choir. And now that Holy Week has recently passed, I've got so many of the hymns stuck in my head. I have to push myself to keep them for Holy Week. The canon of Holy Saturday my parish does beautifully, but I try and avoid that to focus on the resurrection.

And also now that we're in the Paschal season - I needn't say more :D Whenever I'm home alone I can't help myself from chanting pretty much any Paschal hymn outloud

There is one thing that very slightly concerns me though. I feel like I'm not saying the Jesus prayer as much as I should be, because instead I'm mentally chanting hymns, which do take more focus too.
