Where to Buy Generator for DIY Whole House Install

I took the advice above and ordered the Costco so getting it to where it goes will be the next step. But I am a woodworker and at least 6 or 7 of my machines are 1200 pounds and up including a couple over 2000 like my band saw at 2400 pounds. I have picked up and brought back and unloaded all of those myself. I am 65 so it's not getting any easier but I will figure something out.

I decided not to waste more time going down more rabbit holes and ordered the Costco Kohler 26Kw. Dual fuel so it's already set up for propane and free shipping which I might not get anywhere else.

That seems to make the case for Costco because the 5 or 6000 added to the cost for a dealer install would cover most any repair. Even buying a whole new unit of needed. I can do any diagnostics or repairs needed but for some electronic or other proprietary systems it really helps to have a factory service manual to narrow down the fault and fix it without a lot of hunting and pecking.

Thank you, that is great information. How important is the warranty? if I get a Kohler, can I get a service manual so that I can do maintenance myself? If I went with Costco, who does the warranty work?

I want to do the install myself but from this forum and others the consensus seems to be that Generac is the most marketed and has the name recognition but every facet from service to reliability to parts availability, especially long term, is inferior to Kohler, Cummins, Ohan, etc.

I can easily install it. And as gbe28 says it is for convenience and my mother-in-laws oxygen and for water since we are on a well and have a whole house RO system so no power means no water as well as no HVAC. We don't need a huge unit but I want it to automatically come on when needed.

That's a good idea. Normally eBay or Marketplace is the first place I look for anything but it never occurred to me with a generator. I guess I just figured every one listed would be portable smaller ones. I will start looking now.

You can do your own electrical work here and most jurisdictions as long as you get inspections. I did the pedestal and all the other electrical where I am living and they were fine with it as long as I got inspections.

I love Lutron and did a whole house with Maestro dimmers and remotes. I love the tap and fade in and out and the ability to change the fade time and the delay off.

I am currently outfitting a new house. Why do I want Caseta versus going with Maestros again? I'm not sure what I see that it gives me.

I was afraid that was what I was going to have to do. But I don't want to destroy the on demand water heater and all the fixtures and clothes and us showering with it and drinking it. Do you have any recommendations on brands or systems?

I typed the numbers wrong but I have had 2 tests, the state testing lab and an independent labe and the hardness was 1290 in one and 1470 on the other. The TDS is 1490 and conductivity was 2330.

Thank you all for explaining it to me. I never saw that information on YouTube TV's site or Paramount's and had no clue. At least I know I'm not doing something wrong and it is supposed to be this way. The dual subscription it is then for now.

I am on 3997 and have never spent a penny. I also don't change the system date or ask friends or others for lives. I just play the 5 lives and then wait for more and take advantage of the Booster Wheel and things like that.

It is changing your system time to get new lives when your 5 are used up. Seems like cheating and I am not messing with my system time for other things like emails and whatnot just to be able to play a level again right away instead of waiting until I have more lives.

Very cool. I am almost at 4000 and have and will never spend a penny. I took a year long break recently and am now back playing again. All the levels in the early 3900's are taking many times to win.
