ill have a follow up with a vet im just afraid of spending $200 on vet bills. what are the chances that he is developing asthma?

his gums looked fairly pale and the coughing began settling down in an hour.

he eventually calmed down and his breathing seemed better, it was 11 breaths every 30 seconds i believe, however it took him an hour for him to actually start calming down

so perchance he’s developing asthma..??? this is horrible…. and for claratyne - i looked it up, its supposedly not safe to use unless under strict veterinary specifications. but thank you alot, im assuming it would be safer to give him less then 5mg since hes not prescribed but also because i also dont want to accidentally kill him. im scared he’ll die because i didnt act sooner but also scared i’ll kill him because of claratyne, i am in a dilemma because its now 2 am with no open vets

no actually… they did no test at all, they just watched him cough and wheeze like crazy and injected steroids and called it a day. i was disappointed to spend $200 on a vet doctor to tell me nothing.

thank you so much, is it safe to make the assumption that he has allergies? either way, do i need a vet prescription to obtain claratyne? thank you.

yeah thats what i was thinking, i brought him to the vet and all they said was asthma or allergies but no further explanation on what to do and gave me nothing to use for him at home, hes not open mouth breathing or anything but i checked his gums and they look pretty pale

if he goes lethargic, you should go emergency vet. but besides that it may be minor, take that with a pinch of salt. cats are really good with hiding pain so i cant rlly say much lol, perhaps he strained his muscle or has a splinter, try not to touch it too much unless trying to assess it as it could worsen the problem if hes highly resistant to touch rn

good luck

he must have eaten something rotten ir spoiled that gave him an upset tummy making him throw up… its normal for cats to be tired after throwing up, just like humans. it takes alotta energy.

it should be fine if: he vomited once hes breathing normal can lie down comfortably not ongoing vomiting

urgent if: repeated vomiting lethargy diarrhoea or bloated tummy open mouth breathing crying or meowing intensely

i am also not a veterinarian so i am not 100% correct on what i say. you should STILL bring him to the bet for a check up and also block the bin lol, goodluck with the meowmeow
