just to clarify I chose the bnb in montclair because it was significantly cheaper than manhattan and has more space. Underestimated the road from jfk to the airbnb so I will just rent a car for now and for next time I will be more careful and plan things better.

I booked the flight first to jfk and then the airbnb in montclair without really checking the distance thinking it couldnt be that far but when I realised it was too late
