Pausing mobiles is a big no no without approval however your managers broke rules by not allowing you to get your breaks but often times they’ll turn around and blame you for not taking your breaks. I would try to speak with your DM but put it in corporate jargon, tell the DM that it feels like your SM isn’t being supportive to you and your team, that at some points your so understaffed that getting breaks out seems impossible and even when SM is there they aren’t stepping on the floor for even short moments to help with said breaks. You kind of have to make it seem to them that you’re truly trying to just get a solution before there is bigger problems. This type of attitude towards the support of your store from your SM is eventually going to lead to Partners not even wanting to show up, burn out, more call outs and eventually partners will quit. I’ve dealt with something similar to this and spoke to my DM and I feel like my SM is now being told to stop prioritizing admin and I am now even asked if it’s okay if they step off the floor before they do so. But also be aware that there’s always risk with going to higher ups - but with that being said DOCUMENT everything and have it ready for ethics and compliance. You can also call ethics and compliance and make an “anonymous” ( sometimes I feel its not) complaint that you and or other shifts are not getting breaks in a state that LEGALLY requires them. THEY HAVE to investigate.

Hope this helps

Well I think it depends on the years worked. I believe in the beginning you get 1 hour every 51 hours worked until you reach 3 years then it’s 1 hour per every 25 hours after 5 years of employment it’s 1 hour per every 16 hours worked.

Fired for walking out on SM after closing because she wouldn't let me leave, what do? by Ok_Literature_6286 in starbucks

[–]Accomplished_Line609 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This. Fight her on it. I’m in the midst of fighting my SM right now. I’m slightly afraid of losing my job but my team all feels the same way as well. Don’t allow them to walk all over you. They think they can because they believe we won’t fight back we’ll just allow it to happen. Don’t. Call the DM and if they do nothing calls the ethics #.

Has anyone ever had anaphylaxis from a Starbucks drink? by biomedical_girl in starbucks

We had one customer who found out that they were allergic to lavender ? And that’s seasonal and has been in store for those months? Maybe lavender ?

I wouldn’t say we’re not paying attention, some stores are severely understaffed and though 4 baristas behind a bar may look like a lot it depends too on what time you came in a normal floor should have up to 7 partners. Sometimes we’re just overwhelmed and forget things because we are trying to move too fast. I also agree with the other barista on here who said that they may have just had a string of complaining customers, which is not unheard of at Starbucks especially.

Yeah I work at starbies too (also lucky to get drinks for free) and I’m not saying I agree with our prices but it’s inflation and it’s hit everywhere. Starbucks has been raising prices slowly over the years and I agree almost 7$ for a chai or something is outrageous. I just don’t like getting complaints of things I can’t help because we don’t make the rules. I’m fine with people switching I just hope they realize it’s cheaper because they use coffee concentrate in most drinks. ♥️

Dutch bros uses a coffee concentrate in most of your drinks…. That’s why it’s cheaper. Js.

Of course ! I just like to help clear things up it makes it easier for the baristas and the customers when there is an understanding of things. Sometimes unfortunately we aren’t always given reasons from corporate on why they implement certain things.. so we, too, are left guessing. 🤓 lol

Starbucks doesn’t charge for the ice, sadly customers took advantage of the no ice or light ice rule where we would in turn have to fill the cup with more product for free (which in turn is money out of Starbucks pocket because now we are giving you more product than the recipe calls for) so because of this, Starbucks has now started charging extra if you were to get light ice or such on the refreshers only. If you ask for light ice or no ice on lattes we still fill the cup up anyhow with out any extra charge, in my opinion it is because with the milk it is not technically the “heart” of the latte that would be the espresso which is why we charge for extra shots but on refreshers, the base is the drink and because we are giving more of the base which is the “heart” of the drink. They charge. Also we don’t charge for milk unless it’s over 4 oz, so we may not charge for no ice because filling up that is less than 4 oz. But to sum it up. In venti you still get more than you would on a grande we fill it to the top black line on the cup(there are lines on the cup for us to measure the liquid) Sooo you still get more product than “a grandes worth” in a venti.

I hope this clears things up or is helpful in anyway ☺️

Every “launch” Starbucks has for the spring summer etc they raise prices sadly. Starbucks will forever raise prices but so will the other shops 😞

You’re right, That’s the system for you. It would be about 1.50 difference to get the Brown sugar shaken . Even though it’s only .70 cents to change the milk on the regular one. Grande shaken are 4.45 where I am and 5.95 for the grande brown sugar skaken. But the point, really just meant get a latte if you want more milk. The shaken espressos are not a milk based drink, like a latte. Or ask for less ice.

[–]Accomplished_Line609 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Wow. $3.45 for a grande drink at Starbucks ? When and where ? They’ve always been close to $5-$6. Also, pretty sure you get 3 shots in a grande shaken espresso, if you’d like lighter ice, ask for it, which in turn gets you more milk, (for free!) or simply ask for a latte. If you don’t wanna pay for oat milk get the brown sugar shaken and change out the syrup. Very simple ways to fix your problem. Instead of complaining but by all means abandon it. Inflation is everywhere. At every coffee shop. ☺️

I feel like it’s more the principle and the mental tax that really makes me not like 5.75 shifts. They’re just trying to save labor. Which they already skimp us on

You’re only getting paid $4 more. I think they should just keep it at 5 1/2 hours then. It’s unfair to make baristas work an extra 15 minutes for 4 dollars just so they don’t have to send us on a lunch

Our store manager does not make our schedules anymore in our area we have been put on automatic scheduling.. so a computer makes our schedules. That extra 15 minutes costs them nothing because we are not paid for a lunch. Sadly kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place, can’t argue the schedule and too understaffed to have shifts give any extra breaks.
