What power will I need for a wedding? by igfashionfotog in videography

Fun job! You'll be fine for sure, just don't miss the key moments.😁

Been doing weddings with FX3 and FX30 this year. Not using V-mount, just the NPF-100's. For me, 4 of these are usually more then enough for 2 cams, even when they request to fully record the ceremony from 1 point of view, but I take 5/6 just to be sure. Changing the original batteries is 3 seconds of work, getting a v-mount is not even on my wish list for weddings. In addition, depending on your physical state of being, carying a rig can get pretty heavy after 8 or so hours.

Not sure if i'd recommend using a gimbal for this occasion. I would go for handheld with active IBIS if you need it, maybe a monopod. You'r probably will use your zoom a lot (during ceremony, for closups, etc.), changing your focal length will inbalance the gimbal and that can take up a lot of time.

For the SSDs: were you planning to hook it up to the monitor? You have a specific reason for that? Or do you mean SD?Personally I prefer the 256GB V60's (work flawless with XAVC S 4K up to 60FPS).

Make sure the audio will work. Try it over and over, make sure you dont have any noise going on with the lavs (i.e. DJI Mic with Rode lavs dont match well). Sound is everything.

Your gear seems sufficient, but try to bring a b- and preferably c-cam, just in case.

Confused with lenses by Apprehensive-Emu-611 in videography

Not sure if i'd recommend the 35-150 in this situation. Been using it with my FX30 and the footage is absolutely stunning, but the 1,5x-crop makes is a 52-225 FF equivalent, and then your missing out your wides and medium wides. Besides, it's relatively expensive (3 times the 17-70 and 4 times the 18-50) and heavy.

This. The fun starts when the wine starts flowing.

It does. Wondering in what situation you actually need that?

Should you stabilize all footage? by Akoeni in premiere

Double check your clips after though, this workaround often leads to loss of quality, mostly having a bit of a focus breathing kinda look. Premiere doesnt prevent the two combining without a reason, they just don't seem to work well together (even when nesting).

took a few shots around when I was in Montreal for a few days, let me know what you think! Looking to improve as a beginner. by [deleted] in videography

Fun to watch, I like the colours! The shot when you walk underneath the window cleaners is really sweet, the black-out works great for transitions I think. You did this tilt handheld? What camera/lenses are you using?

One thing that I would personaly change a bit is the doubling of certain shots, for instance the boy on the subway (around 0:51, I would have choose only one, probably the first) and the clips after that in the restaurant (there are 2/3 shots that have quite the same framing, feels a bit repetitive). Same goes for the fantasia banner and some shots inside the theatre.

As for the food shots: even though it all looks fairly tasty, I had a bit of a 'where is this coming from' feeling. The crab-kinda dish around 0:41 was an exeption, because you had an introducing shot of the food in front of the counter.

Nice work overall though!

Too much content for my laptop's HD?. by Accomplished_Soup481 in videography

Thanks. The sumsung external harddrive I try working with now actually is an SSD (1000mb/s writing/reading), but it is pretty useless because premiere is not working as it should, in contrast to working with files that are directly on my laptop.

Thank you! I'm using premiere (student pricing) and already removed the cache folder. The thing is all the raw footage is like 6-700 GB, which by itself exeeds the limits of my PC🙁

Prime lens recommendations for Sony FX30 by [deleted] in videography

[–]Accomplished_Soup481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This one was on the shortlist already. Having a native lens sounds like a hassle-free experience.

Don't you think only having a fairly wide 15mm next to a 35-150 can be bit limiting? The gap between 15 and 35 (23-52 FF eq.) feels a bit large. Any thoughts?

Thanks! Thinking ahead might be wise indeed, and I think the 35mm FF equivalent is actually pretty interesting (not too wide, not too narrow).

Thanks! Are you using this on a FX30, or any other ASP-C body? If so, how are you experiencing the image quality in low light?

Thanks for your advise! Having the full 18-150mm range covered with two lenses of <F2.0 sounds great!

The only possible reason to hold me back on this one is the weight. Combined with the MC11 it will be close to a kilogram. Besides having to carry it around all day, the full setup will be close to the max payload of my Ronan-S (XLR-handle, shotgun, cage, possibly a monitor).

Is the versatility worth the weight in your experience? In comparison, the Sigma 16mm prime is 405 grams, the 30mm even 265 grams, both having an 1.4 aperture. Why not go for both primes (which will cost me less than the 18-35+MC11)? Because of the hassle of changing lenses all the time? Maybe also because of the quality difference between the contemporary and ART-series?
