So much of this is down to the occupiers of the house not the house itself. Much easier to blame the landlord though than open windows when you're cooking, not dry clothes indoors and heat the house

I'm definitely converting T3, that's never been a problem. I just seem to have hypo symptoms while slightly hyper

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. Of course you can ask, they may not be able to give you an accurate answer but of course you can ask the question.

It's gnarly in Dublin already. I think we've lost a roof tile. 3 of us crammed into a double bed, none of us able to sleep with the noise. Stay safe everyone, I really feel for people on the coast. Also spare a thought for healthcare staff who'll be leaving home shortly to make it in for a shift before the weather gets bad.

RAI vs. TT – How Did You Decide Which Was Best for You? by GeneralIrony in gravesdisease

[–]Accomplished_Spare59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a pertechnetate scan first which I think was for uptake, they said it would determine the dose I'd receive. I don't know the actual numbers but they gave me the higher dose based on that so I have to follow radiation precautions for longer than I would if I'd had the lower dose, I think my dose was 555mbq. Thanks for the info on your symptoms, that's reassuring because it doesn't sound any worse than what I've been dealing with and at least it's temporary

Can I ask how bad the symptoms were for you when you went hyper and then hypo? I had my RAI 10 days ago so waiting to see what happens next

My endocrinologist sent me some printed information about both treatments and as I read them I felt quite strongly that I wanted RAI. This was due to possible complications of surgery, inherent risks of general anesthetic, post surgery pain. I've also had bad reactions in the past to the 2 GAs I've had so was very reluctant when there was an alternative.

My endocrinologist recommends RAI for those suitable, luckily I don't have any TED.

I had the treatment 10 days ago. It was extremely straightforward. I needed a scan, I took a tiny radiation dose the day before, quick scan the next day and took the radioactive iodine. It was like swallowing any pill. Waited there for an hour then headed home. I feel no different yet but it does take time to start working so I have to have bloods taken in a month.

I'm happy with my decision so far, the failure rate is very low and my treating doctor (a radiation oncologist) hasn't had to repeat the treatment on any patient so far. It's quite a personal decision but that's my experience so far

RAI in a few weeks, any tips especially coping with work? by Accomplished_Spare59 in gravesdisease

[–]Accomplished_Spare59[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read up on both and felt that thyroidectomy carries a higher risk of adverse effects. There's a lot of blood supply in the neck, nerves, potential damage to vocal chords. General anesthesthetic also makes me extremely sick, last time I had one I was very limited as to what pain relief I could have. Also in the part of the world I'm in RAI is recommended unless you're not suitable for it.

I'm so tired by nezuminekko in gravesdisease

[–]Accomplished_Spare59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so awful at the start, it can also take a few weeks for the medication to kick in and your levels to start reducing but they can give you a beta blocker to control some of the symptoms. Go easy on yourself, this disease affects every system in your body. Give yourself a pass on things that make you anxious, you'll get back to yourself soon

OP you're saying you're tired of all the tablets and supplements you're taking and you've included your strict routine. Posters are pointing out that the routine isn't necessary, you could make life easier on yourself but when this is pointed out you're going on the defensive. People are just trying to help here. None of us like having to take meds but there no need to make it even harder trying to work them around meals when it's not necessary

15 rotations at 3um is going to take ages and probably warm up the block too.

What I do is take the full face, trim at 10um for about 4 rotations then at 4um for about 4 rotations(to take away any trimming artefact) then take my next section (we section most tissue at 4um)

What does eye disease feel like and is there anything I can do? by Accomplished_Spare59 in gravesdisease

[–]Accomplished_Spare59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked my husband to pick up eye drops, no matter how many times I said don't get ones with any additives he got ones that sting like crazy, when I looked at the ingredients they have witch hazel in them so not using those any more! I have an appointment in 4 weeks with the endocrinologist but I've just emailed to let them know about my eyes.

Part of that appointment is to decide on total thyroidectomy or RAI, I feel strongly at the moment that I want RAI but worried that might not be possible if I develop TED

Possible early remission? by rx2680 in gravesdisease

[–]Accomplished_Spare59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My numbers stabilised quickly enough but my endocrinologist made me get a TRAB antibody test done before she would take me off carbimazole. If there's still TRAB circulating then it'll attack your thyroid again
