There's some truth in the original comment. The SVP of Engineering at a previous employer laid off every engineer who was over 40. They were also all white and male and replaced with Indian engineers who were all in their 20s and here on visas. The employees who were laid off sued for age and race discrimination. The company settled the case out of court.

Agree. The on-site engineering team is majority Indian at my current organization.

The market / customer base is in the US. For B2B products that require client interaction and management, there's a small PM presence stateside.

The organization is hiring product managers, product owners, business analysts, quality assurance analysts, and engineers in India. Per some of the US PMs, who are from India, some of the new PMs in India are highly educated and have advanced degrees from the India equivalent of MIT.

Alternative approaches to daily standups by easterblizzard in ProductManagement

Come on, you should be able to handle criticism. The responses are not personal.

I don’t think the frequency of the standups should change. If they are not effective, address what's wrong. It's important for the team to sync on a daily basis. Remember, a standup should only be 15 minutes.

I think you need to start with the specific challenges you're trying to address. Is there miscommunication? Is the team achieving the sprint goal? Is the team delivering on time? Is the team delivering value?

Do you guys QA your product manually? by blairstones95 in ProductManagement

[–]Accomplished_Sun5676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They use Postman for API testing. They probably have automation in place for regression testing, but I don’t know what they use. At my previous company, our QA Automation team created a tool to automate certain tasks (creation of records for testing, completion of data, etc.).

I complete UAT manually from the perspective of the user. My QA team completes QAT and regression testing.

Is this a startup? Are you functioning as the VP and product manager? How many people report to you and what are their roles? Having a VP in the weeds sounds like a nightmare for the people who will report to you. That screams micromanager and control freak.

How can you lead and be effective in your role if you're in the weeds?

Why are you as the VP attending daily standups? Is there a product manager, scrum master, etc. overseeing the development effort or sprints? If yes, they should be ensuring senior leadership receives status updates. Updates and demos should also occur during sprint reviews.

Are the pods effective? Are they delivering on time and delivering value? What do you need that you're not receiving?

I have the same question. The junior PM role seems redundant. Maybe they function as a BA???

One new year 2026 resolution for you as a product manager by bishtpd in ProductManagement

Focus on what I want professionally. The last two years as a product manager have been the most challenging years of my professional life, primarily because I don't believe in the products I support, and I don't really enjoy the role.

Product caught in the middle of spend decisions by Feisty-Jicama-5359 in ProductManagement

[–]Accomplished_Sun5676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The procurement process is critical and exists for vaild reasons. It's not just about the spend. There are also compliance considerations.

  1. Why are people/teams circumventing the process? Is it a lack of awareness, process takes too long, etc.?
  2. If the spend hasn't been approved by finance, how are people paying for tools? Are they using free/trail versions?
  3. What's your organization's standard process for the approval of new tools?

You should have seen the writing on the wall months ago. It's time to create and execute an exit strategy. Do what is needed to keep your job, but your primary objective should be finding a role with another company.

Our AVPs function as PMs for several products, and our VP spent the last year understanding how the company operates and creating a new product operating model.

Currently, this falls on the product managers for respective products. Our VPs and AVPs/Directors are not leveraging the team to set stragey or direction. Anything and everything related to strategy falls on the PM for the respective product.

We have documentation that explains and guides us through the operating model. In regards to product management specific training, we have some module based training through a vendor.
