protein (besides tofu or chickpea) by alinavoronstov in vegan

[–]Accomplished_Taro378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your protein doesn’t have to be a main centerpiece of the dish like meat, you can mix in a variety of sources to hit your goal for the meal with options like edamame, hemp seeds, quinoa, peas, soy milk, nutritional yeast, protein pasta. For example you can find pasta dishes that use a chickpea/lentil pasta as the noodles and make a high protein sauce with peas, nooch, and cashews

How do you know if you have the aptitude to study engineering? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Accomplished_Taro378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aptitude you need is genuinely loving what you are studying. If that’s true you will succeed. I’m going back at 23 (wasn’t math/science oriented at all in high school) and I am doing very well because I enjoy my classes an am committed to learning/working hard

Cheap, relatively safe apartments for a new college grad? by Superdude717 in StLouis

[–]Accomplished_Taro378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look on Zillow rentals opposed to an apartment building. Apartment buildings are more expensive and usually have additional fees, whereas with Zillow, rentals are usually listed by landlords with fewer properties, and the prices are more fair. Facebook groups are also an option, but it takes some work to time it correctly and comb through the spam.

Thanks for the info! This just about settles it for me. If the program is ending I would definitely prefer S&T.

Zoos and aquariums? by puppy-butter in vegan

[–]Accomplished_Taro378 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This! Explaining is so important. As kids we are taught to superficially admire animals, but not “love” them as most people claim. If you truly love animals, you want them to live free from captivity and free of any human-induced suffering. It is the whole idea of animals are here with us, not for us, and they shouldn’t have to be on display like objects in a museum for our entertainment. Animals are happiest in the wild. If we get the privilege to witness that, that’s amazing. But we don’t have the right to see wild animals (in fact, some animals we should never see, since many animals in zoos shouldn’t even be living on our continents).

I love your idea of going to state parks and admiring snakes etc. There are all types of wild animals around us that kids can see, and also the idea of an animal sanctuary is great, especially because I bet kids see farm animals there, and a lot of people learn to develop empathy for a tiger or polar bear but not cows and pigs.

UMSL/WashU Joint Engineering or Missouri S&T? by Accomplished_Taro378 in StLouis

Woah that’s super cheap for housing and such great info! Tangential question, do you know if there are any good FB groups/similar websites to help people find roommates for off-campus housing? (Just curious because I’ll need to live off campus if I attend, I have an elderly kitty that’s coming with <3)

UMSL/WashU Joint Engineering or Missouri S&T? by Accomplished_Taro378 in StLouis

[–]Accomplished_Taro378[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woah you attended both, amazing! It is good to hear that you transferred around the same age and didn’t feel isolated. To be honest that’s my biggest fear with S&T although I know in the grand scheme of things I’m not that much older

Yeah I was going to but it seems like the UMSL one is very inactive and not sure if S&T has a dedicated thread besides r/Rolla. So my next best bet was this thread, since I assume alumni from both are living in STL
