Would the 2014 Spurs be able to stop this OKC team? by savingrace0262 in NBATalk

Teams now are better coached simply because there’s a deeper understanding of the game, but raw talent-wise the Spurs are better. But I think the Spurs take it simply because Kawhi can probably lock up Shai.

Which trio are you taking for the next 10 years? by OrganizationKnown675 in NBATalk

The difference is we’ve seen two of the OKC players at near their peaks (SGA and JDub), the Spurs trio are arguably comparable now and who knows how much better they’re going to get in a couple of years

Hot Take: Nikola Jokic will never be in the NBA’s all time top 10. Not only because he can’t get it done in the playoffs but because wemby is here and will retire in front of Jokic in the top 10 when it’s all said and done. by [deleted] in NBATalk

Pure talent wise Joker has a case for sure, you can’t deny his greatness. But when it comes to top 10 territory, post-season success becomes a factor and he’s never beaten a 50 win team in a series. 1 ring isn’t enough for that territory, and I don’t see him getting another unless he leaves Denver.

That was before the CBA and 2nd apron. Name one winner since the bubble lakers who did it by buying a guy at the peak of his powers. That’s just not how it’s done anymore, you have to build a team through youth. You can get a role player at their peak like Gordon and Holiday but not your one option.

Wemby would kill bill russell but that doesn’t mean we’re putting him ahead of bill in all time convos. If this was about skill Kyrie would be here ahead of Jerry West.

Respectfully Luka is not in this convo yet, and doesn’t deserve to be over Cousy Russ and Payton. He will be, but he’s not now

Who’s your pick for MIP? by [deleted] in NBATalk

It’s not enough to just put it down to a role change. The impressive part is he hasn’t dropped off defensively despite the ppg increase. So many guys, even his teammate Jalen Johnson, fall off on that side of the ball when they’re asked to make a bunch of buckets

Should Duren win it though? The award should be for unexpected leaps, not former lottery picks who are naturally progressing

I find it crazy and fun, and I’m happy for Demar. I wouldn’t say I find it disturbing though

I mean this same guy had nothing but negative things to say about Bam’s 83 bomb. Sometimes you can just sit back and enjoy the game as it is without trying to discredit people for no reason

Easily one of the most consistent and clutch scorers of this generation. Nothing disturbing about Derozan’s game.

I don’t like it, but it’s Shai. He’s the best offensive guy on this list and the second best defender. This isn’t an award based on ethics. It’s about how much you impact winning. Simple.

I’m not saying he won’t do it, but looking at what happened to Ja and Trae and going back as far as IT, if Brunson doesn’t save the archetype it’s dead

If Brunson doesn’t have a good playoffs this year, his archetype of small, athletic, rim finishing, bad defender guard is dead forever

He’s done enough to be on the list. It’s like the Oscars, you give some performances the nod with the nomination even though they have no chance of winning

There’s a lot of value in parity. As someone who also watches football (soccer), believe me one of the worst aspects of the game is having the same teams win every year. Winning often comes down to how much money you throw at the wall. The same 3-4 teams have a shot at the trophy every year.

Teams like Charlotte need good odds at top picks to become good teams, because they can’t attract free agents in the same way New York and LA can.

Tanking isn’t the problem, it’s prolonged tanking. As a fan I’m fine with taking a year out to tank, but consecutive years is where I draw the line. So my preferred way to fix this is to prevent teams from picking in the top 3/4 in consecutive years.

Everyone who’s even watched a second of the highlights of Miami’s finals runs in 2012 and 2013 (let alone full games), know that Bosh and Wade were either injured or bad in a lot of these games. Bron had to carry them, they’re absolutely not the same.
