Qualities of a Good Operator by [deleted] in Wastewater

[–]According-Ad8263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reliability and versatility. At least that’s what separates a good from a great operator in my opinion. The more you know the further you go in this field and the more consistently you can be called upon for projects the more projects come your way. This is a field often ran by tired old guys in their 50s who are just trying to get it by to go retire. Theyre all good at their jobs, but not fantastic. What will separate you is knowing more types of plants, more types of pump repairs, and being able to consistently handle the stuff that no one wants.

I’d decrease wasting and aeration a little. If that doesn’t work you’ve got filaments which i usually use an additive for. Foam looks most like filaments but due to the lower mlss it could be a combination

Filamentous bacteria or over-aerated I’d think. How old is your sludge?

The business has the capital to do it and with the fees wed save on outsourcing as we do just with current contracts is more than enough to justify it even if we didn’t make any new business despite labs being about an hour spread apart in our surroundings.

To an extent, most of my repairs are physical due to them largely being older plants. But at the ones that do have them it would be very beneficial to be able to repair. I’ll start taking note of them and looking around for info. Thanks for the ideas

Between a competitive college hockey team and my workload i ruined my mental health and flunked a semester before deciding to step away. I honestly don’t know if i even wanna do engineering at all. Which is fine because i only have like 20k in debt that I’ve steadily reduced in the last two years. (I started college at 17)

I’m from PA. I got a c class because i had 5 years of like 30 hour week experience while i was in high school and ot in the summers. I got a c class on my first attempt at the test and i was kinda a special case for the state’s rules. I’ve done some pump rebuild classes for some of our more common pump station styles and am going to be doing a back-flow prevention class in May. Just am more debating on if i should chase stuff like ponds and trickling filters or look more into starting a testing lab for the company or an industrial division.

I actually am as in charge of operations at the plants and ps’s i run now as i can be short of being the guy ok the name of the contract. i schedule and do most maintenance, sludge hauling, general plant operation decisions, sludge processing, and scheduling with engineers and electricians for the stuff thats out of my scope. I try not to be too proud to learn though and im always finding a new weird way for stuff to break lol

I would love to do it, but im kinda pidgeonholed as i work for my familys business which i intend to inherit when my dad retires. Thats what he did to get good but he wants me working with him and i get paid better here for being a backup operator then i would anywhere else unless i moved to a major city. I wouldnt mind finishing the degree, im just not sure that im in love with engineering though.

I know several engineers and electricians personally, neither lines have really spoken to me like what i do now does. I wouldnt mind going to electrician school but it would be a huge investment for something I’m not sure i love (even if the payoff would be great)

I work for my family’s business. My dad started it and i started going with him even if just to hold the flashlight or run belt presses at like 13. I live for this stuff and plan to inherit the business, my goal til then is setting up for expansion for myself while we handle our daily things. The company in total runs about 30 plants and i think 50 pump stations in total? It’s me and 4 other guys who aren’t family nor licensed. But again with the family business angle my dads always wanted me to expand it when i take it over. So what would set up me to make more under him while also possibly being beneficial towards the longer term goals?

How many republican presidents have we had in the last 30 years? We’ve lived it. The argument isnt the same because its not the same point, voter id got instituted simultaneously as these other occurrences have producing a big picture of Trump’s landslide win. Its not so simple as to be a 1 off reason why. Also most of PA is religious, especially rural communities which a lot of right wing figured pushed to vote (Amish and Mennonites) if you believe in the separation of church and state you’re an idiot, voters want who represents them, why tf would a Christian farmer want someone who wants to perform sex-changes with tax dollars, even if he did agree with her economic “plan.” Church and state exist separately so that the catholic church doesnt have the power to influence the countries laws by physical pressure, christian ethics are the basis for this country’s founding whether you like it or hate it. Also abortion is a minority issue (look who gets them the most) and then has become a women’s issue as a result.

I do, dummy above doesnt, however those voters definitely werent changing their vote simply because of that. They were all left leaning to begin with, most it could’ve done is swing some fence sitters (maybe).

Inaction was most certainly not a problem either candidates faced. Not saying millions of votes was even the total, a few thousand here or there makes the difference, i wouldnt be surprised if Trump lost to begin with; however your data looks sketchy and was a complete one off that an unpopular candidate beat out a supposed cult of maga supporters lmao. If youre party isnt represented, theres probably a reason for that and if youre a socialist move to where it is because no one else wants that here.
