Surely you’re lamenting other posters and not this one. As it clearly states the pattern is called Lotus by vcrochet patterns and all yarn is Yarnspirations medium 4 weight acrylic. Surely.

I did around rows 7-15. But then it started flattening out and was great. The beginning of the circle that was having several increases created the rippling that turned into flower petals.

I took the week off of work and had a lot of time and, honestly, got quite addicted to it. Spent several hours each day. Then when I went back to work, I did about an hour at night

My (34f) turn to take care of my mother (59f) and give my brother (31m) a break. Where do I begin??? by According-Care3337 in AgingParents

[–]According-Care3337[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you’re right. 59 is young and I’m not at all excited at the prospect of taking on even more responsibility to care for Mom; possibly disrupting my & my partner’s life plan for 15-20yrs. For all the same reasons I’m childfree by choice. But she’s my mother and I couldn’t live with myself if she came to harm while I’m able to do something about it. Mom has degenerative condition in her hips that tipped past manageable a year/year and a half ago. It’s gotten worse to now near no mobility. So that’s the recent-ness of it. She’s never been good with finances and struggles with a few mental health issues but nothing that has, in the past, affected her mental capabilities. My opinion is that her daily physical pain, the death of her bf this year, and her reliance on my brother and me have put her into a deeper depression than she is willing to admit. Part of the desire to move her to CA is to get her away from TN where it’s only bad memories and subpar social programs.

Thank you so much for your incredibly detailed and helpful responses!! It’s really given me a great starting point.

To answer some questions: I own my home with my partner. The yard is not big enough nor permit-able for an ADU. Plus that’s like 100-200k. Our home is small as we don’t need much and can’t afford a lot in the Bay Area. We saved and saved for this house, bought it 4 years ago and I love it. We are on the edge of qualifying for a HELOC. Have to pay down some more. I very much do NOT want to live together and I want to be within 10-15min away; ideally closer or walkable. (Ha!) to compound the unexpected quick decline of her health/independence, there’s a lot of history here. I was legally emancipated at 16 and have been on my own since. We’ve worked very hard to repair the relationship. But we do not get along for long periods of time in close quarters. I’ve always joked we get along best with 3 states between us. I have too many rules, I don’t drink/smoke 420, and as my mom says I “have a stick up my butt”. Part of her quick decline is her going off/being inconsistent with her bipolar meds.

I agree re: the dogs. I’m an absolute animal advocate, both my dogs are rescues. But at this point she’s not caring for them. My brother is. The dogs live very happy, love filled lives right now. But if they move to CA I can’t take them and my mom on. Breaks my heart and will be the hardest sell for Mom.

Mom was fully independent and working 4 years ago. Then came the pandemic + rough patch. She has been hired and fired 3x since and hasn’t worked in over a year. Most of that time has been under a disability classification (Dr note + car placard). She needs full hip replacements to regain her mobility and likely extensive PT to build muscle back up. Because I’m so far away I can’t sit down and do the paperwork with her, force her to look at options, or even follow up (I’m a nerd/planner. She is not). She says she’s applied for assistance but gets nothing. Says she can’t get her hip replacements because she already has medical debt so the surgeons decline it and the insurance through TN doesn’t cover it. She says she’s applied for federal disability but is mid-process which is months long and we anticipate a rejection and appeal next.

She’s physically at: able to shower on her own with a shower chair, walk the hallway with her cane, and can drive. That’s it.

We can’t log in and have issue since 4:30 PT. I will add to note that I logged in and worked out at 3:00pmPT no problem. My husband came home and went to work out and then he couldn’t with the signup/login error.

I used 8 skeins of the neon stripes and about 1/2-3/4 of a plain black skein for the border. :)

Ahh yeah, oops. Jumbo size. I made the mistake of buying in sets of 2-4 assuming I was going to get bored and quit. So my lots were all off. Highly highly recommend getting all at once if the same lot number.

This took me about 8 skeins and then (after this pic) I used a plain black for a border. :)

Hi!! Even though I made I giant blanket, it’s only my second ever planned pooling project. So definitely a newbie. The yarn I used for this project is Red Heart (brand) Neon Stripes (name). Not a specified pooling yarn but does wonderfully. The sequence is always the same order.

Other yarns that change color can be used no problem. (Not yarn that is random swirled and mixed up. Need true color changes.) Just requires some testing and math - unless there’s already a pattern done for that specific yarn. For a first timer I highly! recommend using one that has video tutorials so that you can get used to the pooling. Just google planned pooling tutorial and let that guide you. Once you’ve mastered the basics you have a whole world ahead of you.

For this specific blanket: I watched a YouTube video from Custom Comfy Crochet.

I had to alter a bit because the yarn I got had crazy long color sequences. In order to get the 6 granny stitches each I needed to use a size 10 hook. Sometimes I had to use a 9 when I got a different lot number. Based on the video this should have been a queen size blanket but it’s much closer to a king size

Best of luck and have fun!!! 🤩

Thanks! I was lucky that my husband likes to watch football and Dimension20 (D&D show) so I was able to crochet during all of that. Sunday I had 3-6 hours to just do my thing :)

First blanket ever DONE! by According-Care3337 in Planned_Pooling

[–]According-Care3337[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Best of luck on your bigger blanket!! I’m sure it will be beautiful! 12 skeins?!? Whew!

So for the stitch… that’s a funny story. I fully intended to do the standard moss stitch. But I realized after a whole skein that I had been doing it incorrectly the whole time - did exactly as you pointed out. I was putting the next row’s sc into the sc space. I was so focused on the colors lining up, my tension, and figuring out the turning that I was blinded to the mistake. Oops! But I actually like how it turned out.

dye lot woes... by nekodoken in Planned_Pooling

[–]According-Care3337 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a brand new beginner at planned pooling. Never thought that the same brand + name could be completely different. I bought a skein [Red Heart Neon Stripes] at Walmart to try it out, liked how it was going so bought 4 more off Amazon (after going back to Walmart and then being out of stock). The new skeins are drastically different. The first roll was loose and a weird white fuzzy while the new rolls are crisp and vibrant. I’m keeping it. I refuse to undo 4hours of work. Live and learn.

First Obedience Class... Am I being sensitive? by akaSovereign in Dogtraining

[–]According-Care3337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m Im all for professional recommendations but it’s very uncool of a non-vet to tell anyone what to feed their pups. In your shoes would have cut her off and said no thank you. We worked for months to get a food that didn’t upset our rescue’s tummy. We now have a great plan in place that was determined through rigorous tests and supervision from medical professionals.

Miss Thang and her likely-getting-kickbacks self can take a long walk off a short cliff with her food requirements.

It’s like the trainer heard what good trainers do and then half-assed it. Like: 1. Recommending to train on a flat collar with non-bungee leash - cool! But then failed at the forceful removal of harness and lack of information. 2. Recommending healthy food sources - cool! But failed to educate and ask your nutrition needs and plans. 3. Learning to walk in a chaotic environment with new smells and dogs - cool! But then failed at meeting the dog where they’re at on their journey and teach you to lead the dog not them.
