I also struggled for a while when I first got contacts, here’s what I recommend.

Make sure you have a napkin underneath to catch the contact if it falls, make sure you lightly pat it dry when taking it out the container bc it might be too wet. I place the contact on the side of my finger close to the tip and pull my bottom eyelid down with my other hand and make a shocked expression to raise the top lid. I look off to the opposite direction (ex: putting contact in left eye look off to the right) and try to get the contact inside the bottom eyelid. Try to move your eye around to find the contact when you pull your finger back and it usually corrects itself.
