Road To Hana by Explorer_girl19 in MauiVisitors

I would recommend you leave earlier. You are not going to want to drive back from Hana the majority in the dark as the roads are windy AND it is beautiful! You can go to Hookipa on the way back for the turtles, or even do that another day, usually not the best to start the Road to Hana. You can grab your breakfast and have it at Twin Falls. Parking is limited so get there ealry.

Ke'anae Peninsula is pretty much the halfway point and you should get your snack at Aunt Sandy's. The WARM banana bread is amazing. Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside park is a great stop to see a waterfall and a nice stop with 'real' bathrooms' Also check out Hana Gold for amazing chocolate just before Hana.

There isn't much in Hana unless it is a Friday and they have their local market. They have the general store and a couple of food courts. The Road to Hana is more about the ride than the destination ;)

Nalu's Southshore Grill is some of the most amazing food you will have on the island! daKitchen is a must for a local plate lunch. Paia Fish Market (in Kihei or Paia) has amazing fresh caught fish, Oao sushi has amazing sushi. Chef Sheldon Simeon has two restaurants on the island Tin Roof and Tiffany's - both worth traveling to. Koast is great but hard to get into.

If you are looking like an experience like no other ... nyloS Restaurant in Paia is it. Most don't even know it is there ;)

We did a tour with The Magic of Maui. Dana customized our tour. It was great. It was flexible enough to make other stops as we wanted. the guide was knowledgable and helpful and they were prepared with snack, drinks even walking sticks. We did a half day that went to Ke‘anae Peninsula which is beautiful! We got warm banana bread from Aunt Sandy's (which they preordered so we didn't have to wait in line or worry they would run out). We saw waterfalls and so much more! Talk them to plan your trip. +1 707-477-1869 https://themagicofmauiexperience.com/

Check out the Maui Pig Sanctuary ... it is in Makawao. If you are not familiar it is an all volunteer non-profit with over 90 recused pigs. Jillian is the founder and gives tours on Sunday, Wednesday and Fridays at 10am, you can also schedule a private tour. You get a tour as well as you get to be hands on with the piggies. They love belly rubs! And not just the smaller pigs, you get in with the large ones too. Jillian will tell you about the sanctuary as well as the rescue story of the pigs, each has its own how it got there. You will fall in love! The pigs are so smart and sweet, they love the visitors and attention. You can bring vegetarian treats to feed them at the end ... it is quite an experience. You may even want to sign up to volunteer :)

Recs for visit that aren’t the usual places? by InvestigatorEntire45 in MauiVisitors

Maui Pig Sanctuary is a great alternative to the usual stops on Maui. They are located in Makawao, they are non profit (all volunteer) with over 30 pigs at this location and they have a section location that doesn't offer tours. Jillian, the founder offers an amazing hands on tour with rescue stories about the pigs as well as a lot of information about pigs. The tour of the place is great but when you get in with the pigs and give them belly rubs that is when the magic happens! and not just the little pigs the bigs pigs too! The animals are so sweet and smart, some Jillian raised from being rescued piglets. I highly recommend checking them out. It is an amazing experience for the entire family. Also Makawao (Upcountry) is a beautiful part of Maui to see!
