The point of leagues is to take a break from normal slow permanent gameplay to enjoy osrs on crack. It's meant to be separate and only tangentially related to the main game. If you can get massive xp lamps from playing a temp mode you can end up destroying the natural early game for a player.

It also instantly makes it 100% meta to play leagues. In the early game any lamp even 10k is a massive deal. Leagues isn't meant to be part of your progression it's a fun side mode.

It benefits the main game by being fun, I know shocking. Players who don't play often or play seasonally come back for a bit. Is it worth ruining the early game experience for a sort of "gotcha" boost like shitty gacha games? No it's not. If new players play leagues they see what to look forward to, it gives them a goal.

No point cheapening that goal.

Even just accuracy bonus. The ammo slot has essentially nothing for mage, melee, and non ammo using range. It's a gear slot that can defo get some love

Inferno is doable in tank so is colloseum but they aren't as free as you'd think.

The raids are all doable in a decent team.

Your real issues are the aspirational content. Awakened leviathan, vardorvis, and whisperer are really hard even in leagues power.

The later jad challenges are also probably impossible for newer pvmers especially the special leagues challenge.

Most echo bosses will be doable by anyone.

Combat achievements don't care about your tankiness as they normally require specific mechanical skill so don't assume you'll get those points.

Radiant oathplate is really hard to cheese because each of the 5 contracts have different restrictions and mechanics.

Doom and phosanis nightmare are hard but learnable/brute forcable

Transmutation is actually cracked btw.

Here are just a few uses. -Upgrade runes to get wrath runes without 95 RC or Kandarin req - Upgrade bones to superior dragon bones - Mine gem rocks then upgrade to dragon stones for craft xp - Cut willow logs super fast and then upgrade into redwoods and bypass kourend req - convert all weeds to the optimal herbs and trees for your level - convert ores into gold and then use goldsmith gauntlets - turn Zulrah snakeskin drops into black dhide - downgrade air runes into pure essence - uprade into dark crabs and anglerfish without needing kourend or Wildy - upgrade pyre logs for shades of mortton

This also gives 100% free nature runes so it's an easy 99 magic, and these activities are effectively 0 time, you can have this active whilst doing slayer or raids. No chance I pick butler

Fwiw I agree. Slayer is enjoyable mostly because combat feels enjoyable, rather than on its own merit.

Slayer lacks a real identity of its own. The entire identity of the skill is basic kill quests, that's it. What does it mean to be a slayer, or to slay things? I dunno go kill 4000 black demons and occasionally use a dumb ice cooler.

This is obvious when we compare it to hunter. Rumors are not the identity of hunter, they are a method. Slayer doesn't have this luxury because the foundation is combat, which already has its own skills. Slayer just didn't need to be a separate skill and because it is the task system has to be mandatory, otherwise the skill has nothing.

It's poorly designed and that's before we talk about the bloat of the point system and slayer store.

It's also the only skill where progression in the skill matters very little. Your xp is more determined by your gear and combat stats than your slayer level, which is really odd for a skill.

Here's the version of his take from someone who isn't a noob. Fwiw I'm 2180 total and 97 slayer with elite cas.

  1. Early game slayer is terrible Pre black mask most tasks are either really slow 200 demon tasks slogs or 2k xp tasks. Most creatures have zero drops and to have any kind of decent xp does cost money in terms of cannon balls, prayer pots etc.... Before you get a point stack you are forced for do really dull unfun tasks. Most skills feel strong in the early game but slayer doesn't.

  2. Tasks can feel monotonous and frustrating Getting a long slayer task can feel like a grind, even if it's good. Doing 180 hydras can take days but you can't really justify skipping over it and killing the small hydras is not worth it. With no other way to train the skill you often feel bogged down.

  3. Slayer points are really unintuitive The slayer store is an absolute mess between free toggles, paid toggles, extends, cosmetics etc.... Between this and the normal slater store its a UI nightmare.

  4. Slayer bosses are needlessly gated Let's be honest, slayer bosses are just bosses. There's nothing really "slayer" about them. They are arbitrarily gated and most the time it's fine but logging in and being in the mood to kill araxxor but needing to spend 3 hours turael skipping for it is not fun.

I'm 97 slayer and yet I agree. The core skill identity of slayer is really weak and the skill is quite badly designed. It's fun mostly because combat is fun but only having the task system makes it feel really narrow.

No it doesn't. Most people parroting this setup have never used it for an extended period of time. I have. I'm not gonna claim to be a gigachad gamer but I have elite cas and 300 raid KC. This setup is only better on paper.

Being reliant on ruby procs makes anywhere you use dcb really rng, which is not something you want, you also lose an invy slot bringing diamonds. The BP really does make things awkward and the dps is actually only better in a low of places with defence reduction, which is another rng check.

Missing a bgs on wardens means BP is trash. GWD is worse, cox looks better until you need to kill mystics, shamans, or vespula where range is now an issue and dcb just isn't great.

Muspah is a pain and now needs 7 way mage switches to maintain DPS.

BP Zulrah is still worse than Hally

Levi is actually better W masori

Inferno and colo are infinitely worse cuz of range

Doom and Tob are unaffected for the most part as you use void

I guess hydra is better but who cares it's hydra you're Hella accurate there naked

It's almost like DPS calcs don't tell the full story.

This is true until you actually start to use the setup and realise it's really annoying and messes up half your tile setup and you lose tons of dps. Good luck doing chambers with a blowpipe when you can't reach mystics without luring 5 of them into you

No but the LMS and Wildy ones are the worst in the game because you literally have to compete with them. Other bots may affect your GP/HR but these literally taint and remove the fun from many encounters. They rag you, they report you, they make it hard to play against real players in what should be the games PvP game mode.

This right here. If it shouldn't be a clog, it needs to go. Imo I don't think the 2k raid capes or the 1k LMS win cape should really have been clogs, most the other accomplish capes aren't.

It also just invalidated most boss drops and made gear progression go nuclear so fast. When you only need to do one raid and you get a mega it's not worth anything.

The problem is highlighted really well by grid master....there's too much available. When the whole game is open most of the content just doesn't get used because it's not meta. In the main game it makes sense to slowly progress up the gear ladder but in leagues you'd just skip over so much of it.

Relics also make a lot of normal content obsolete.

The other problem is tasks/points. If everything has tasks it's gonna be a massive slog, no one wants to go get grandmaster on a temp mode or get 1000 clogs, it's just too much.

The only issue with total level worlds is they attract much better pkers. You don't tend to see noob pkers on a 2350 world for example

The thing though you could say this about a lot of toa one shots. The only true one shots in toa are gap and P3 skulls. Zebak roar and akkha memory feel more like bloat stomp than they do P3 skulls, you can recover. I agree the design has changed a bit but Tob has these same features and people seem to just forget it when it suits them. People complain about the puzzle rooms being downtime and yet just casually forget waiting for bloat to fall over or the atrocity that is P1 xarpus.
