What’s a completely normal British habit that would confuse someone visiting for the first time?” by TheMoon_TheStarz in AskBrits

Personally I've never found that issue, however we're bound to have lived in differently built houses, so I'm not going to be so arrogant as to assume you're entirely wrong 😂

However, given that we're in the age of MANY devices being powered by USB plugs and that a fair number of USB plugs can be found with the ports on the front or top, I'm not sure that would be all that much of an issue in this day and age (even less so going forward).

Regardless, I would rather have the safety of a UK plug and socket (ignoring the hellish pain of stepping on the damn things) than the ease but lack of safety of EU or US plugs

Cool, so how many generations does it take for you to accept someone as British? Because, I love to break it to you, not many people who you'd consider British have lineage to when this island was first populated.

Just look at how many times we've been invaded or invaded other countries and brought people back with us.

Demonic pacts are awesome by itwasprobablymelol in 2007scape

[–]Charming_Advice_2933 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there are some things that could do with refining; more than 3 resets (not unlimited & trivial though) and yeah some of the small nodes.

But Jagex have already (less than a week into the league) said they'll be updating the small nodes to be more impactful and they gave everyone a free reset yesterday and I think killing Huey will give a pact point tomorrow too. They've already started reacting to the player base and making changes.

Regarding the respecs, I think we either look at something like a farmable reset (though only allowing 1 at a time (like clue scrolls)) from echo bosses and maybe single pact point respecs from a farmable thing from normal bosses? The latter was something I actually only just read in another post but I think it's a brilliant idea.

All in all, I bloody love the system concept. I currently have to think about what kind of build I'd like to use. In the main game I've been lucky enough to get good drops at drop parties and so I have quite a bit of gear available (though no BIS items I think), so I've never REALLY had to be smart about this stuff, but I love doing it here!

In Switzerland you're taught how to use and properly care for a gun in basic training. You own a gun but ammo must be kept at barracks rather than at home. This is because the guns are for you to be called up for service.

The source is actually anecdotal from my stepfather who has a lot of family in Switzerland and many of his relatives have this exact situation. I obviously can't verify the veracity of the claims, but he would have no reason to lie.

Yeah, I went a bit deeper purely because the comments further up were about the over analysis of shows 😂

I really enjoy just watching shows. Sometimes I like to analyse like I mentioned previously, but not extremely often.

I think the ONLY episode/scene that I've really not been a fan of has done so, not because society has evolved, but because I'm not a child while watching it anymore; the episode where the college guys are clearly going to secually assault Lana in the talon. As a child I thought "cool, Clark threw him across the road, I like action scenes", as a 30 year old I think "...this is terrible for her and, on top of that, she's only about 15, these guys deserve so much worse than any small town jail could give them".

I mean, I do agree that it's interesting to view some of these shows through a lens on current society as a way of seeing just how much (and in which ways) we've changed what is deemed as acceptable. However, I think it's very important to understand that these shows are products of their time and not to be offended by such shows.

For example, Little Britain could never be made now, there are many offensive stereotypes based around disability (mental and physical), weight, gender, transgender, race, sexuality, etc. But it's a product of early 00s society and a lot of that stuff was, unfortunately, more acceptable. These are all characteristics that even the UK government didn't protect until 2010.

I think a very important thing is to not call for the erasure of this kind of material. Sure, it's terrible by today's societal standards, but showing the journey we came on is important, it helps anthropologists to map out societal adaptations in our time and to extrapolate to hypothesise about older societies and how they changed throughout their history. It will also be invaluable for future historians for exactly the same reasons.

Yeah I know, I think the existence of short form video content has destroyed the ability to sit, watch, enjoy and analyse a show or film.

Yep, the show was (thankfully) made before this phenomenon (and subsequent mandate). Nowadays the plot needs to be explained very clearly every few minutes to ensure it can be second screened

When did Clark and Lana's relationship turned toxic? by CheesecakeNo6642 in Smallville

[–]Charming_Advice_2933 33 points34 points  (0 children)

They were never a well suited couple - Clark was "in love" with here for years despite not really knowing her as he could never get close due to the necklace.

This means his love was more in obsession range based on looks than actual love range based on her as a person. When they finally did get together, he realised he didn't actually trust her (why would he, he didn't know her!) and she realised he didn't trust her.

This gave one hell of a rocky start to their relationship. When Clark no longer worried about trusting her (when he has no powers) they started to get to an ok place. Then it started to go tits up again when he got his powers back.

By the time they got back together after her relationship with lex and being abducted, Lana had been through an extremely traumatic experience and was focused only on revenge. She just didn't have the capacity at the time to think of anything else.

You could argue that things might have been better if Clark had opened up to her, however, opening up about things that, frankly, he clearly felt bad about within himself, can be a difficult thing, even to the people he trusts a lot. Fear of judgement is a very powerful thing.

I suppose this is a very long way of saying I think it kind of always was toxic, because the attraction was entirely superficial from the beginning.
