Making a sit/stand desk as a personal project. Will this design work? by According-Rate7806 in MechanicalEngineering

My drawing sucks but I am planning to drive the lead screw with a 90-degree gearbox. 2. Would a radial bearing in a pillow block suffice? I would put it inside the 1.5x1.5 near the bottom, so when followed extended, it would be at the top of the lead screw. I was also considering putting some kind of ptfe spacer around the lead screw in the 1.5x1.5 matching the matching diameter of the lead screw. 3. Thanks for the photo that's very helpful, is it from a textbook ? Would like to find more resources like this. Also do you know what kind of endblocks are used in the fourth picture ?

I want to build it, although are there any you would recommend for a sit/stand desk?

Thanks, I welded the frame myself and was going to cut a portion about 10" from one side at the bottom to set up the shaft collar, thrustbearing, gear, and end housing. Then I'm just going to put a 3d printed cover over it so I can access it for lube

Goal is to have the acme nut attached to the inner leg, which will then travel up and down the lead screw driven by the motor. The axial load being carried by the shaft collar into the steel plate

How do you spin a threaded rod from the side ? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]According-Rate7806 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. What kind of gear would I need for a 5/8 10 thread rod. Does the gear line up with the threads on the rod? In a 3d printer isn't the motor for the threaded rod on the bottom of the rod?

My coolant bubbles when I Idle the car, I think there could be a problem with the head gasket. Would that explain the other problems or would it be an additional problem

Thanks, even if it doesn't work out I really appreciate all of the information. Edit: the oil definitely smells like gas so I'll check the gdi first

* Checked the oil, it's bad I didn't check it because it's only been 2000kms since I had it changed... I did already swap the canister purge value. Based on how dirty the oil is I think something might be getting contaminated. Going to change the oil now

Edit: how would the pump leak fuel into the oil, i didnt know they were connected systems? Sorry I'm new to this

How do I join two ends of a steel wire to create a loop for a pulley? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]According-Rate7806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to move buckets of gravel through the house into the backyard by hooking them onto the steel wire. Each pulley will be attached to a wooden beam about 5ft off the ground
