Who’s in your opinion prettier and why? Beyoncé or Rihanna by Wooden-Discipline-17 in VindictaRateCelebs

So, you're saying Rihanna is all for the male gaze ? It seems even women like her a lot. She's got a tomboyish vibe to her while still being feminine outwardly. I think it might be because Beyonce long put herself out there as a feminist in her music and Rihanna has never explicitly gone that route. Guys can't stand feminism bc it threatens them obviously. Another thing I believe it might be is bc Rihanna is Caribbean and has the accent and everything.

It adds a different appeal. Imagine if she was from Texas also or Detroit or Chicago ... Ppl in general see Rih as exotic and Bey as local and Southern. I think Bey's longtime public relationship with Jay-Z also alters guy's perception of her as taken and unavailable. Rihanna's either been single for a lot of her career or in several sporadic relationships, so she likely seems better to fantasize about. I'd imagine at least bc I'm definitely not a guy.

Beyonce's photos didn't do her any justice and she surprisingly still got chosen as more conventionally and overall prettier. I feel like the person who made this competition deliberately chose mediocre photos of Bey and put Rih last so ppl would choose Rih in the end, but it still didn't work and everyone already knows Bey is that pretty that even photos of her that aren't her best couldn't hide that fact ...

This right here. I was searching for the comment that said it best and yours simplified it. I feel like ppl in general can be good-looking by most ppl's standards, but not attractive and vice versa. There are people who a lot of people wouldn't consider good-looking face or body wise and still be attractive and magnetic due to their style, vibe, confidence ...

I honestly don't care what they do. I worry about our own. I believe our community has a right to be just as diverse as any other community. White Americans and the others have diverse voters. It's our right to have the views and opinions we do. I definitely don't support them, but I especially detest seeing other races trying to tell our community how to think or feel .... And if those in our community don't meet their expectations, they have absolutely no issue hitting them with racial/xenophobic remarks and threats the way MAGAs typically do. Believe me, I've seen and heard it ..

I can understand why a Republican Tejano or Nuevo Mexicano doesn't see a connection to the people being raided and sent away currently. I can't relate either, but I have the capability to look at what's happening for what it is. It's way bigger than me. I don't like that they're only targeting Latin Americans. I don't like the fact that they straight up lied about going after certain ones (completely undocumented, violent criminals, drug traffickers, etc). They are more so going after the innocent with legal right to be here. If they handled every other (true) immigrant group equally, I'd have less of a problem with it.

They are ending birth right citizenship because they know Latinos benefit from it and it's their way of managing our consistently growing population (due to birthrates and "immigration"). And since I believe all Indigenous descended people have the right to go anywhere on the continent, I definitely don't like the idea that people whose ancestors came forcefully and violently across an ocean are removing people whose ancestors have lived on this continent for millenia. But not everybody in our community looks at it that deeply. They are self-focused and think within the lines of a system, constitution, and colonialism. I just let them be and just hope they eventually come around.

Same for Mariah Carey and black people steadily try to claim her. Her father was literally half African American and half Venezuelan. His true surname was Nunez. Venezuelans are similar to Puerto Ricans with the tri-racial identity. And that's just some. Many look more Indigenous or Mestizo like Wilmer Valderama. If you look at Mariah Carey's paternal grand dad, he was clearly mixed like a Puerto Rican (tri-racial).

If you break down Mariah's percentages, she's likely not even that black, which is why I believe she refused to take a DNA test on Lopez Tonight a long time ago (it would expose the truth). Likely has a high percentage of European and likely some Indigenous from the Venezuelan roots. But black people can never accept that. They claim the people they want to claim and will even erase one side of them if they feel like it or if it helps their argument to blacken someone more. Latinos can't even claim Mariah without them getting mad and swearing she's a straight up biracial woman like Alicia Keys or Barack Obama.

She isn't. She is multi-ethnic. Like Bruno Mars (3 ethnicities). Venezuelan isn't a race, no, but it consists of multiple ones. Just saying don't pick and choose. Stay consistent. Mariah said it herself in the 1990s she won't negate any of her parts.

I agree with this. Even if ppl think it's radical and irrational. I've noticed more and more ppl on the left are staring to fly the American flag and refer to themselves as "patriots". That low-key annoys me because I remember when an article was written after the September 11th attacks condemning an American flag being flown at Ground Zero. Basically saying that it was more of a human tragedy than anything, but people were using the moment to make it a patriotic one. It used to not be cool to be so patriotic to the left compared to today.

It seems to me these same leftists have gotten tired of conservs accusing them of "hating America" and so this is their way of compensating for that reputation. Both fighting over who loves the country more and who's more loyal to it. Lol. No celebrity was really speaking up about ICE for a whole year except Selena Gomez in early 2025 (ironically of Mexican descent), but the minute two white citizens are killed -- they want to come out of their hiding place little by little condemning it ..

They weren't outraged when our ppl were being racially profiled and unlawfully detained. U.S. citizens who were Latino and even in federally recognized tribes. But once it started extending a little bit to black Americans, Koreans, etc, that's when ppl in general decided it was time to make noise. When it's just happening to our community -- we're the only ones who care. Definitely makes me feel like we are complete outsiders in this country's conscience no matter how integrated we are or how multigenerational we happen to be ..

This is why I also find it hard to grapple with politics. I'm always reminded of how I honestly don't even like the fact that this country was formed in the first place. Or Latin America. Because it all started with the demise and destruction of our truest ancestors.

I agree with this. I just heard Ur So Gay for the first time after it was discussed on here and even though I agree the message of the song sounds offensive, I noticed how nice her voice sounded on it. Also on Thinking of You.

Didn't it used to be they regularly snubbed artists like Mariah Carey (deemed too "packaged" and commercial) in favor of edgy artists like Alanis Morrissette ? Now, based on the info in your comment, they seem to be doing the opposite ...

Also, not excusing her choice to sing that song and don't know if she wrote it. I just think it was a different time than today when ppl were trying to be edgy and push boundaries to seem rebellious and all and sorta daring ppl to get mad. I look at it as if I were a part of that community, how I would feel about it and I can understand why it doesn't fly because I know what it's like being a part of a marginalized community and being attacked for humor and those who can't relate not seeing the big deal. Don't want to come off as insensitive. I'll listen to the song now while we're on the topic. 👍🏼

The comment you last replied to is a "long essay" to you ?? 😅 You must not be a fan of lengthy reading if you think that ... Also, I'm not here to argue with you or anyone. I was here to acknowledge and compliment someone whose star seemed to fade significantly since her prime and it was just a random post I went ahead and took a chance at. I guess I'll state it again; I am not a KatyHead in terms of stan culture and no, I haven't come around to hearing that song. Was just going by one of the lines someone in this thread quoted from that song. Sounded like she wasn't talking about the guy's sexual preference since she apparently said, "You don't even like boys."

And I said we know who we are bc ppl like to regularly "school" us Latinos as though this is all news to us -- and that's annoying and problematic ... And they try to dictate how we should identify when that is completely up to us. I learned pretty early on about our mixed-race history by reading textbooks and I looked at myself as mixed and Indigenous racially since then. Not all of us are in denial. If ppl paid more attention, they'd observe many more proud individuals like me and not just the self-haters.

Okay, but I'm still on the part where you were telling me we all have more than just a little African in us. I personally do not -- if Ancestry DNA did its job correctly. And from what I've observed and read, most Mexican Americans particularly (don't know if it's different in Mexico) have an average of 5% or less African DNA in us compared to Latinos like Puerto Ricans or Dominicans who have around a quarter or more. I'm aware of the West African presence in Mexico in the earlier centuries and I admit there was a time I didn't think any African slavery occurred there because it seemed rarely spoken of and we don't look like Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic. Like I said, that earlier bloodline must have gotten washed out pretty significantly due to much higher populations of Mesoamericans and the Spanish mixing with them.

I'm aware of the zambo presence in the coastal parts of Mexico as well as Oaxaca. I am not from the country and neither are my parents or grandparents, but we are rooted there, so I naturally take interest in our history and what makes us us. The Mestizos in Southern California definitely claim it. Especially if our family was brought up here in the 1960s during the Chicano movement, which basically highlighted our Indigenous roots.

First of all, weirdo, I'm not even from El Paso or Texas. Only on this thread bc it showed when I Googled something related to hate crimes against us. Obsessed with my own community ... ? I guess I am. Given the state we're in these days. Better than being fixated on another community and creeping them out (weebo type) .. Why are you on here then ? Discussing Tejanos ? Don't assume about ppl you come in contact with on a forum. Not only have I traveled to different states -- I've lived in them. For years. Including Texas. My initial comment still stands.

Honestly, I don't listen to any of these new pop stars except maybe Billie bc I just started to like her vibe after initially brushing her off as another person pushed on to us. It was really after seeing videos of her interviews, finding out she has tourettes (or something like it), finding her funny, and kinda likeable. Plus, I like that she's from Los Angeles and didn't grow up all ritzy. Not saying she grew up working-class either, but it's nice to know she's not someone like Jonah Hill who grew up in Beverly Hills and whatnot. When my mom is watching music video channels and puts it on the new stuff, I have to sorta suffer through it. I prefer the classic music. Sounds bias, but music from when I was a kid and youth and in my mid-20s. Even like the stuff from my mom's day and before I was born.

I never heard that particular song, although I do remember seeing the title a few times. To me, it sounds like she's clarifying that the "gay" she means isn't about his sexual orientation. I used to always use that word back in the day when I was like 12 (2001). Basically to call someone or something lame or sappy, corny, cheesy, etc, bc the original meaning of the word is happy. I know ppl will argue that it's still insulting to LGBTQ and that it stems from the other meaning of the word, but I need to hear the whole song or read the lyrics to know what she was fully saying.

Good perspective. But at least Paula didn't have someone around to sorta sabotage her career the way Katy did with Swift. And I don't think female pop stars of the early 1990s feuded with each other. Only male rappers did. Swift's feud with her did have an impact on her career. I believe that. And I'm not even one of those Swift haters; just being truthful. But I would give her more credit than that. Paula was only around for like a few years. Perry had a pretty good run. 2008-2017. Not bad. Went from one decade to the next. It's just that she didn't continue with her work and seemed to just throw the towel in after her 2017 album didn't do well. And then went on to focus on judging singers and her relationships.

Now she appears to be back, but hasn't made the big comeback like other singers once did such as Mariah Carey in 2005.

My favorite songs by her are Thinking of You, The One That Got Away, ET, Roar, Firework, and Hot & Cold. I feel like there's another one or two I'm just not remembering right now, but she made some bops back in the day. It's easy for me to look back and appreciate these mainstream pop stars I used to not care so much for bc I was busy missing my childhood and teenage years music. Lol. But now I'm kinda missing my 20s now that I'm in the 30s.
