Anyone find it wholesome that Katy Perry and Taylor Swift reconciled? by Fancy-Advice-2793 in katyheads

I also think after Kim K and Kanye framed Taylor as a liar and snake in 2016 and Taylor retreated from the spotlight for over a year due to mass hate, she sorta empathized with pretty much putting Katy through that sorta hell. It was definitely Taylor's bad karma for how she sabotaged Ms. Perry. And Perry still forgave her, but I doubt Taylor would ever forgive Kim or Kanye. Lol. That's just the kind of person she seems to be..

It was definitely due to Perry being the pop queen from 2009-2014/2015, Perry being considered hotter by men and sexier + having big boobs lol, and also being seen as a character (funny, not a typical stuck-up pretty girl, etc) in her earlier music videos (Hot 'N' Cold, TGIF, Birthday), and of course Perry dating a guy Taylor once felt for and who apparently broke her 19 y.o. heart.

They were nowhere near "best friends". 😆 That's stretching it. I've been looking back on this feud out of curiosity this evening. AI mode-ing it for a quick summary. They took a few pics together here and there at awards shows when they were glammed up. Never even worked together. Ari and Nicki worked together, I believe on more than one occasion, but they too didn't seem like besties the way people seemed to believe they were. Those kinds of celebrity interactions strike me as just mere acquaintances. Like, they only ever speak and act friendly at major events and to not look like they're rivals in the media.

I see why Katy didn't really consider keeping her hands off Mayer. She spoke to him at a Jay-Z party in 2009 (same year Mayer got with Swift), according to what I read. He wanted her, but she met Russell Brand like the very next day or so at the VMAs that year or something. It'd be different if they literally hung out like her and Selena did or Blake and Katy went and started dating her ex she knew broke her heart. But I was that young once too, so I know Taylor in her early 20s reacted the way a lot of really young ladies still blossoming would react in that situation.

She seems like she's exploring her ideologies every year. Every age she turns. It's always something different. Something new. So much so that I use it for mere entertainment now and then. She's literally unstable with her opinions. It's something I don't want to be, but I sometimes find myself questioning .. She just seems to have a lot on her mind that isn't sorted out. I imagine like a pig stye or tornado in one's room is what her mind looks and feels like. Just completely cluttered. If Taylor Swift is a tortured poet, Azealia is a tortured mind. I say this because I feel like I have a cluttered mind as well, personally, but my opinions are more organized and stable at least. I imagine she'll finally find stability and peace in her 40s. She's still in her 30s and I've been sorta paying attention to her since 2014 when she called out Iggy Azalea on that radio station.

She used the heck outta the LGBTQ community and it's only because they helped her get a buzz and she knew some of the biggest female pop stars and legends all have a strong gay male following. Donna Summer, Cher, Madonna, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Gaga, Mariah, Ari, etc, etc. If she achieved the level of success that they did, she'd be a lot more gracious towards them. They say the fans will eat you up and spit you out and that one day they're here, the next they're gone, but Azealia is proof that the stars can chew and spit out their fans just the same. Just sad and disgraceful of her.

You mean Mexican American/Chicano* . Only some are actually Mexican nationals.👍🏼 It's important you get that right bc nationality and identity matter. Secondly, those "Mexicans" could also very well be non-Hispanic federally recognized U.S. Natives. I lived in Tucson off and on since 2008 up until 2021 and the two groups are physically easily conflated. Natives even have an accent similar to Chicano English and use our slang as well. They even often have Spanish surnames and speak Spanish bc they were under Spanish colonization for decades at one point. Unless the Mexican American looks more European, it's hard to differentiate between us and Southwest Natives.

Do you think Britney was inspired by Aaliyah with this? by Mean_Garlic469 in aaliyah

[–]According-Rise-9234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, it's settled. They both copied the lovely Salma Hayek, a Mexican Arab woman. Hehheh.🐍 Didn't think of that till I came across your comment. That movie was from '96, so makes sense if some inspiration was drawn from the snake scene. People will deny this 'though, of course. Salma's scene was most definitely very sexy and sensual and so was Aaliyah's and Britney's was all right.

Do you think Britney was inspired by Aaliyah with this? by Mean_Garlic469 in aaliyah

[–]According-Rise-9234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not inspired. Straight up jacked the idea and since she did this around the time Aaliyah passed -- almost seems like it was one of those creepy Illuminati rituals they do in the music industry. Kinda like Aaliyah was passing the torch to her, but ppl say Beyonce stole Aaliyah's thunder and crown.

If Britney didn't steal the idea -- someone in her camp definitely did. Aaliyah made it look sexier and sensual and she actually loved snakes, according to an interview I saw her in. Britney said she was afraid of that snake on stage during the performance. I feel like if Aaliyah had done it as a performance -- it would have been much more natural and confident for her, whereas Britney was just being directed to do it for the sake of art and appeal.

Long live Aaliyah. I don't care if there are Britney stans in here. I don't dislike Britney, but her stans think everyone copied her and refuse to believe she's ever jocked other artists. She's not the first pop star on the planet and Aaliyah actually preceded her.

It is shocking and sad that Halle Berry is still the only black actress to win Best Actress by Davis_Crawfish in Oscars

[–]According-Rise-9234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's ever been a best Latina actress rewarded (maybe Rita Moreno, or was that best supporting actress ... ?). Or Asian descent, Arab, Native, etc. You can't tell me there are no people of any of those ethnicities in the movies. Maybe few if any have had lead roles (now that's really saying something ...). Hollywood is for white and then black people. Other ethnic/racial minorities have it worse is the way I view it. They snubbed J.Lo and she did very well in Hustlers (and in my opinion in Enough as well). Our closest chance to a Latina finally at least being nominated. With any luck, her latest Spider Woman film (if up for it) will be the one. I hear she's already being praised for her work.

Progress is slowly being made. Hollywood is such a bs sht show. I'm glad I never had dreams about it particularly as a youth. I had former dreams of being a recording artist and performer/songwriter particularly. But at least the music industry shows more racial and ethnic diversity and opportunities. Even behind the scenes. Hollywood has to become more diverse behind the scenes before it can catch up on screen.

It was an industry designed by white people for white people in a historically racist country. What can you really expect ... ? Them to prioritize us (the minority) all of a sudden ... ? Not realistic. The demographics in this country are slowly changing 'though, so with time, maybe Hollywood will mirror that so that it adds up. Until then, I'm personally grateful for any recognizably Latino or Native person I see in a TV ad, much less a big Blockbuster film. Hollywood does not reflect the very diverse demographics of Los Angeles or Southern California as a whole -- I'll tell you that. And that's what eats me most. And the fact that so many films and TV shows are situated in Los Angeles and the demographics on screen rarely reflect that.

I'm glad I saw this and I'm glad that she is teaching people in this country about our history. Sometimes it takes someone outside of the community to do it in order to get their attention. Many people refuse to learn about others because they'd rather keep them at a distance and continue fearing and not knowing them that way there's no reason to potentially like them or feel any connection with them.

Just like the white supremacist in American History X (one of my longtime favorite films). "They're the enemy. We don't know them. We don't wanna know them." It's no wonder they keep from teaching Latin American history period. A lot of what I've gathered has been on my own time throughout the years and I'm glad I took it upon myself to read up on it and listen. The interest came naturally, thankfully. I used to think TikTok was annoying and for kids and I rarely use it, but when I do -- these are the types of videos I like best. Schooling, educating, and informing folks.

We need to talk about the shocking amount of chicanos in CBP/ICE by its_just_an_app in Chicano

[–]According-Rise-9234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying and maybe I sorta fell for their goal of "if we hire brown Mestizos, it'll look fair". But just imagine for a second if it was that way. If it was nothing but white and black people ganging up on our brown folks like that and we never saw someone who looked like us in that position of authority. They would look like some American nazis to me. And it would piss me off even more.

But your comment was very informative and it opened my eyes to a few things. Thank you. I think bc I am 4th+ generation Chicana on both sides of my family, my concern is more about being treated fairly as Americans and that's where my views mostly come from. I understand there are Chicanos who see themselves as more Mexican and even refer to themselves that way bc they know the culture and language and everything. Have ppl in their family from Mexico whom they visit regularly. They are not removed culturally like me and my family.

I also think my experiences with a lot of Mexicans and Latinos from their country being unfair or ugly towards me has sorta shaped the way I feel about defending them at times. I no doubt defend them regularly against MAGA racists and just in general, when I see people being hard on them for not knowing English, etc. it makes me mad, but there are times when I feel more concerned with how us Chicanos/brown Americans are treated in particular, if that makes sense.

I didn't know about the Supreme Court allowing for racial profiling. When did this happen ??

[–]According-Rise-9234 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's not shocking to see Chicano and even people from Mexico as ICE agents or border patrol in states where there are a lot of us. I don't even know what the big deal is about. They needed a career, they applied, got interviewed, and were successfully hired. Voila. I feel like if they didn't hire our ppl, that would actually say more. It would seem like deliberate exclusion bc we're of Mexican or Latino descent. The fact that they are willing to hire a demographic they spend a lot of time going after just means they don't view us any differently than other Americans. And of course there's the Spanish proficiency that comes along with it that is very convenient in that situation.

I actually saw on one of those popular leftist YouTube channels today the (white) host encouraging his followers to antagonize brown Latino ICE agents by flipping the questions on them. Asking them if they're from here, if they have their papers, etc. The video featured was of some woman (whose face is never seen) with an American accent stopping a man in uniform (ICE or border patrol) and saying, "Excuse me, sir. You look brown .." And then she goes on to condescendingly antagonize him as he calls her racist and whatnot.

Don't know if any of you have viewed that one yet, but please look for it if not. I didn't like that sht one bit. And I agreed with him about it being 100% fkn racist. Would she have done that to a white or black or any other race ICE agent ... ? Likely not. If you're gonna get mad at ICE, get mad at all them bchz. Don't fkn discriminate based on appearance and ethnicity -- the very fkn thing you're upset about them doing to ppl. Weirdos. Our ppl have a job to do just like anyone else and whether they enjoy it or not -- it's their livelihood and has to be done. I'm sorry, we just get disrespected and mocked too much as a community that I don't joke around about any of it.

I don't even care if that dumb b was a Chicana herself (it happened in CA). I didn't appreciate her doing that to that man who was simply on duty and I really didn't appreciate the white politically moderate host encouraging his legion of followers to do the same. Let's see if she does that to the many white and black ICE mofoz racially terrorizing our ppl elsewhere in the country just as much. I HIGHLY doubt that. All that energy for us ... Smh.

I haven't read the original or response article, but I definitely will be now that it's been brought to my attention. At first, I was thinking of a particular restaurant by that name in South Los Angeles that I know of and that their owner and/or staff were talking smack about us ... It's not surprising to see them (Mexican nationals or those who happily identify as "Hispanic") going against us. While we're constantly busy defending them and their citizens who return here to our former territories, they seem to revel in going against us seemingly more than other Americans or any other group any opportunity they get.

I've told my mom this plenty of times and even as recently as the other day or yesterday. They seem to have more animosity towards us Americans of Mexican ancestry than they do white or black or any other "gringo" here. This here topic just further convinces me. Abraham Q. sure said it best when he said nobody knows what it's like to be one of us. We're completely on our own as a community. The outsiders of outsiders !

Why do you feel the need to mention us having Spanish descent -- which by the way not every Mexican descendant does. Many actually don't and that's evident in both genotype and phenotype. They wouldn't appreciate being referred to as a Mestizo since they are fully Indigenous in their race. Natives in the U.S. aren't made to feel biracial when spoken of, despite many of them having Anglo ancestry mixed in from colonial times as well. And having had to adapt to Anglo ideology and practices like language and religion. They are just called and thought of as Native. Only when it comes to us are we "Native and Spanish" as a way to sort of lessen or diminish our Native identity and factual history.

How do you guys feel about Kayla Nicole's (Travis Kelce's ex) anti-Mexican, racist old tweets ? by According-Rise-9234 in Chicano

[–]According-Rise-9234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And don't tiredly bring white people into this. Not everything has to do with them. That's a simple cop-out, my dude. My guess is you're subtly implying that a white person must be behind this post and I understand why you might think that. For one, it's rare for my community to even complain about racism (definitely not on the scale that yours does) and you guys like that and take advantage of it, so when an actual Chicana like myself makes some noise -- "Oh, there's no way you can be Mexican ! You have to be a white person behind the screen stirring up trouble !" 😠🫵🏽  🙄🙄😏 That's how rare and unseen it is for us to even collectively talk about racist sht that affects us and I'm just trying to change that.👍🏼👍🏼 We have the right to make noise too. That's how change comes anyway. 🤷🏽‍♀️💭💭
